Hello,

I have been trying for 3 days to get the back glass on the Tom and Jerry to show up on my one screen desktop. The table works perfectly fine but I cannot see the back glass image while I play the table.
I have read everything and still cant figure it out.

What I would love, is to be able to play this table with the back glass showing that has the dmd too.

Can anyone help me out here?

Thank you.

You sort of can not normally run the backglass on a single screen along with the table.

You could run VPX in less than full screen
and you could set up screenres.txt to run the backglass on display 1 in a small size
say 400x400 or something?

You will not be able to run VPX in exclusive full screen mode though.

Not sure this is what you are looking for?
As it is not an optimal way to play

Check here for helpful info on running dB2S backglasses on same screen as table.

Here is a Tom and Jerry dB2SDT version.

New Link below...

This is for Desktop users only.

This will place the fully functional dB2S backglass on same screen as DT view table. (Backglass is placed in upper left corner.)

Remember you need the Backglass server program installed.

Also make sure you have "Disable B2S" unchecked in your Preferences - Configure Keys Nudge DOF menu.

The 4 items included in download are the table and dB2S backglass made by the great watacaractr, screenres.txt file, and B2S.exe file, and they all need to stay in the same folder for this to work. Just run the table from folder it comes in. You can place the folder anywhere.

Here is what it looks like when you start the table...

capture170_t.png

First I had to change the script to use the old controller method, as this won't work with the new method.

I had to remove all the DOF calls in script.

This particular table loaded slow for me,(think its my graphics card), so I resized all images that were over 3000 res back to 2048 res.

The Instruction and Price card pic alone was 5486x11376 res!! HUGE!!

So now it loads way quicker for me. (This method doesnt work if the table takes alot of time to load!!)

Carry on.

You will need to make sure you have "Disable B2S" UNCHECKED in "Preferences".."Configure KEYS, NUDGE, DOF" Menu.

capture172_t.png

You may also need to download the original table package here..

https://www.vpforums...&showfile=14023

As it has the music and rom included with his table download package.

I have asked Watacaractr for permission to upload this dB2SDT version. and he has given me permission.

I won't be including the music or rom with this mod, so people will have the chance to thank the original table and backglass maker, when they download his table package.

I found a way to not delete any of the DOF from script, and it uses the newest controller method.

So no script is deleted at all.

So stay tuned for update with special features for us Desktop Users.

First thank you to everyone who takes the time to create all of this. I tried the single screen Tom and jerry table but I cannot get the back glass to show up. Not sure what I might have missed.

I am using the normal tom and jerry.vpx table (The one linked above)

and the 3 screen backglass named tom and jerry.directb2s
(both files need SAME names)

i set table screen resolution to 640x360 (i just picked a crummy low rez)

I did not do a great job of positioning the backglass and DMD

But you can see me typing this with the table running

So if you have not disabled B2S in nudge prefs

AND you have properly set screenres.txt (Use the B2S settings app in the table folder)

AND you have the table AND the backglass in the tables folder
AND both have same names

EDIT:
AND you do NOT enable exclusive sull screen mode

It should just work, you may have to fiddle a bit with size and positions but

I can see the backglass and dmd load but the table and background hide them. I have disabled exclusive full screen mode and B2S is enabled (check box is unchecked).

What you have to do is set VPX to use a resolution that is less than your desktop resolution

then, to get hold of vpx to move it, hit escape, then click to return to game, this will cause the header bar to appear

which you can then grab and drag the table around on the screen

and changing the b2s server settings will adjust the size and placement of the backglass and DMD

so that they are not all messy like in my screen shot, which is terrible placement

Here is a little better

You have to do some of it manually, but it is not terribly hard

What is the resolution of your monitor?

Did you see the info and link above?

I have made a dB2SDT mod that keeps the backglass on same screen as Desktop table.

Find here...

https://www.dropbox....d v1.0.zip?dl=0

capture173_t.png

I am still in the process of adding a few DT user perks.

I have added JP's LUT script.

You can find instructions included with the download.

I will be uploading this dB2SDT mod in next few days.

YOU WILL NEED TO KEEP THESE 4 ITEMS IN THE SAME FOLDER FOR THESE DB2SDT TABLE MODS TO WORK PROPERLY.

ScreenRes.txt
b2sDT.EXE
Tom and Jerry dB2SDT Mod.vpx
Tom and Jerry dB2SDT Mod.directb2s

RUN THE TABLE FROM THE FOLDER IT COMES IN. YOU CAN PLACE THE FOLDER ANYWHERE.
SIMPLY START TABLE AS YOU WOULD ANY OTHER TABLE. THE DB2S BACKGLASS WILL AUTOMATICALLY STAY ON SCREEN.

EDIT:

I don't think this method will work with Exclusive Full Screen Mode.

cool mod

there is one advantage to doing it a different way though (IF this is kind of your permanent setup and not a 1 time thing)

And that is, All tables come out the same

MWMqcmO.png

It would be more impressive on like a 24" 1080p monitor and not this 14" 720p laptop screen but

actually on a kind of cool side note
i have to work out the dimensions a bit for a proper look
But for one who can run their OS rotated (Maybe has a vesa mount monitor, or has a single screen mini bartop or cocktail table cab)
i got kind of a single screen cabinet thing going on here, just have to sit down and figure some proper dimensions so thing look proper, proportionally

kind of neat though, better than FSS actually.

On a single ultrawide resolution monitor, it would be way cool

I agree and also it allows for more room for the backglass!!

Watacaractr and I actually talked  about this a few days ago.

I told him I might make 2 versions.

The cool thing is each dB2S table mod has its own screenres settings.

So one table will not interfere with anothers settings.

So no need for uniformity.

But the tables need to stay in its own folder with the other items.

I can see where it would be an advantage just to add all the tables and backglasses to one folder though with one screenres.txt file for them all.

I agree and also it allows for more room for the backglass!!

Watacaractr and I actually talked  about this a few days ago.

I told him I might make 2 versions.

If you are interested, for standard desktop orientation (Landscape)

open windows paint

resize image to be the reverse of your desktop resolution
uncheck to maintain aspect ration

so like 1080x1920

Ok now, click to resize again

this time leave maintain aspect checked

change 1920 (the bigger number) to 1080 (your screen height)

let the 1st number do what it will

This is your table window size in reverse

or cheat, but at least i showed you how to determine it

here is a resolution chart

Portrait 431x768

Portrait 505x900

Portrait 606x1080

Portrait 808x1440

Portrait 1212x2160

those are all 16.9 resolutions, based on standard monitor heights

(they are just non standard resolutions)

now, set VPX to run in non exclusive full screen, resolution does not matter

ok now open regedit

and go to this key

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Visual Pinball\VP10\Player

Set width to the little number (values in alphabetic order so it is at the bottom of the key's values)

606 in this example

Set Height to the big number

1080 in this example

When setting these numbers, click from hex to dec, then type in number, then click back to hex

Now you will need to position the window
That is the WindowPosX and WindPosY values

WindowPosY is probably going to just be 0 or 1 if you wanna nudge it 1 pixel out of the bottom edge

WindowPosX is going to be a few more pixels that what ever you make the backglass width to be.

Ok now you have your table in a window that VPX wont otherwise give you
and you can adjust that as you see fit if you need to bump it a bit wider

Once you have set this, do not change resolutions in VPX, or you will have to regedit it back again

The B2S setup is easy

set back glass screen to monitor 1 (like you had a choice)

Set backglass screen resolution to a size you find acceptable on the screen

the Backglass Width and Height
I used 640 and 360 but for a higher rez screen you will need bigger

set the X and Y pos to be 0 unless you need to nudge it off the screen edges

LED width and height should probably be based of off 128x32, even though a non real DMD table has no such hard restriction, i think that is the size ratio
most of the B2S's use?

So mine is 512 x 128

For a higher res screen you may need bigger

You can cheat and use paint to find the numbers like i did above, by making a 128x32 image
and then resizing the width to the number you want with aspect maintained, and you will get the height to set the LED display width at

The LED Y offset is going to be at least 1 pixel more than the backglass is tall

the LED X offset is backglass width minus LED width divided by 2, and BING perfect alignment

And everything will stay like that for every table

And for tables with a real DMD or a Flex/UltrDMD display, set VPM to use external DLL for the ROM, where appropriate
then set freezys window to the right size and position, and save globally (right click the window)

And there ya go, your own little single screen with backglasses and DMDs and everything setup

All you have to do is set the POV to one of your liking, which you could actually just adjust the desktop mode more like cabinet mode
and then instead of saving the table itself, export the POV to autopov.pov
and it will set all tables the same though can can fine tune any given table and export it's POV to same as table file name.POV and it will override autopov.pov

No more big unused VPX window sticking over or under the backglass etc, or praying xenoph can mod the table for you.

So hopefully some single screen people with larger screens can get some fun out of that.

If you got a wee bitty screen (like this 14" laptop) you will need to Git Gudder, cause the table plays quick in a small space
or just stick with a normal 1 screen desktop setup

"No more big unused VPX window sticking over or under the backglass etc, or praying xenoph can mod the table for you."

LOL

The info for converting these to use backglass on same screen has been in that tutorial I made 6 years ago.

No need to pray for Xenonph to mod your table. (Although prayers are always welcome!!)

The info has been public for 6 years.

I learned it from Kaan, and Kaan learned it from Chepas, so no telling how long it has been around!!

I am not going to go crazy and make a dB2SDT mod for every single table. (I certainly will for my personal collection though lol!)

I only made this Tom & Jerry mod when the original poster of this particular topic said he was having problems getting backglass to stay on same screen.

I will be releasing a few more, like the Fish Tales, as that backglass of STAT's needs to be seen while playing table by more than just cabinet users!!

I may take requests in the future, but keep in mind I will be asking for permission from both the table and backglass makers.

No permission, no mod.

(I have already received permission from many different backglass and table authors previously when I made those VP9 dB2SDT mods.)

I will definately be making these mods for the tables that have important info only seen on the backglass.

Or tables with backglasses that have alot of action on them.

I like your idea better wiesshund, but I don't see an easy way to make this happen for the "simple DT users" out there who don't know how to edit their registry and such. (Namely me!! lol)

Would every user have to do this same editting and all the above, before using mod?

Keep in mind some people have trouble just figuring out how to run a rom table. So we want this to be as easy as can be.

And Prayers mean you have to keep waking up to answer them, and you know what happens..

Well technically no

Since it is the same exact regedit, for everyone, and the only thing that differs is "What size do i want?" and "What Position?"

I could probably come up with a simple bat file that asks you
Width?
Height?
X position?
Y position most likely for everyone would be the same, but i guess i could make it ask if you want to change the Y

and then have it automatically apply the regedit for you, as we are only talking about 4 numbers changing

you would just need to enter the values in hex, which there on online dec to hex translators

and someone more skilled in like c++ could probably cobble up a little utility real easy for something more GUI like that auto converts decimal to hex.
I am not so great with c++

But i can show you, in a can not mess up way, how to do it.
it is not as daunting as it seems, and what we change is removable just by opening vpx going to prefs and changing the resolution.

See what you think

Open Regedit (just click start and type regedit, then click it)

in regedit address bar paste

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Visual Pinball\VP10\Player

Press enter

Now regedit has a favorites menu, you can actually click Favorites and add that key to the favorites menu

Ok so Yay now we are sitting at that key with a bunch of confusing stuff in the right side of the screen

That is OK, we are ignoring 99% of it

Click on the 1st value you happen to see on the right

Now hit H on your keyboard

It jumps down to Height (the only entry with H)

Just like how windows does in a list of files

So doubleclick Height

edit box comes up, you see the current value, but in hex
you want to see a value you understand, so click Dec
Now it shows you what that value is in normal number terms, something you can understand

So, type in the value you wanted, click OK

Dont worry about flipping it back to Hex, is is a DWORD, so it is simply a given that the value is stored as Hex

Ok, now hit W on your keyboard
BING! right to width

same thing, double click it, click dec so you can see a human number instead of a Hex
type in what you want, click OK

and the Windows positions are directly below Widtth

Same exact thing for those.

Now, leave regedit open

launch table (yes VPX can be open this entire time)

Table too far to right? quit table, VPX can stay open.
double click WindowPosX and reduce the number
Need more right? increase the number.
Start table again
Adjust as needed

Decide after adjusting table POV that you'd like the table window wider?
Same thing, quit table but you can leave VPX open
double click width, click Dec so you can type in human language, make it 10 or 20 pixels wider click OK

start table again

Fine tune as you like

Suddenly decide OMFG i have made this horrible How the &^%$%$! do i go back????????
click prefs in vpx, go to video, and just pick a normal resolution
POOF, all undone

Want to save the reg changes and yet be able to go back and forth?
Just right click on the Player key in the left side of regedit
and pick Export, and send the file to your desktop, call it like single screen
then you will have a single screen.reg on your desktop

Open that in notepad
Delete all the values (Values begin with the name in quotes)

except  Width, Height, WindowPosX, WindowPosY

now save it

Now you got a quick double click to restore that set up
And if you wonder why i say delete the other values, it is because you may adjust other settings not related to the size and position of the non full screen window
and we do not want you to accidentally undo those and then feel bad about regediting anything ever again.

Some registry things, yes, it is smart to know that you do not understand them and leave them be
These 4 little guys are totally safe and harmless and easily resettable right from VPX itself

And technically, everything in the player key can be reset right from VPX prefs (should a person go experimenting)

And you can look at the values etc with out changing a thing
You can double click anything, look at it, then click cancel

Another place to Favorite in regedit is

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Freeware

That is where VPinMAME stores a key for each ROM

Ever have a ROM just go stupid, or you change screen setups and the damned VPM display is off in space where you can not see it? Or out of the blue a specific ROM's
VPM display decides it will no longer remain on top, but it did last week and you changed nothing?
Need to reset the damned ROM so you can start over?
That is where its key is, which you can delete, which will reset the ROM but retain your nvram (High scores, Table settings etc)
You can also hand edit things in there, but we arent talking about that here.

If you feel the need to empty your wallet in my direction, i don't have any way to receive it anyways

Spend it on Hookers and Blow
