Version: 1.4.8
Category: VPinMAME 9.x Recreations

Here it comes!!!

Williams Whirlwind (1990)
Original Table Design by Pat Lawlor, Art by John Youssi

Special thanks go to destruk for scripting help and his suggestions, jpsalas for various script snippets, and to all of those who provided resources and play testing.

This table marks a few firsts for me. Mainly, the ramp technique used. My main goal in this table, and probably all others in the future, will be to create realistic lighting effects for the full pinball experience. -Noah

Just a quick word to those who may have problems getting this table running...

This version requires a very good video card with plenty of memory. I suggest nothing less than 512MB for optimal performance.

If you have problems, especially the dreaded "z-surface" error, reduce the display resolution in the video option menu of the VP editor. If that doesn't work, select a 16-bit display mode.

If you still have no luck, my apologies, but I used every possible resource to bring serious lighting effects to this project.

Enjoy the table, everyone!

The table runs good on my system, those disks get the ball(s) moving very fast. The only issues I am seeing are some slight slowdowns (as to be expected on my current hw) and the apron appears black no matter what color depth I run at. I have never had the apron image disappear like that on any other table. Other than that, this table rocks.

I currently have a p4 3.07ghz w/ 1.5gb ram. I have Geforce 7900gs video card w/ 256 mb of ram. I am going to get a new nvidia card with 515mb or 1gb in the next couple of days. The main purpose is to make vp run better. Can anyone confirm a similar setup? I am hoping that the cpu is not a bottleneck, since it is pre dual core.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the lighting and light effects on this table are awesome. You guys did a great job on this table, I can't wait to see more from your wip list. Thanks again.

As far as the apron issue, try the reorder feature. It's still relatively untested for debugging display issues, but what the heck...

I have an nvidia card so I had reorder off. I loaded the table with it on, still no apron sad.gif No big deal though, there are no other graphical problems on my system and it doesn't effect play. I prefer this over the phhof version on my 360 already for the vp9 physics.

Edit: I also forgot to mention that I had to toggle hd rendering off, or I get the 'offscreen surface' error, which i currently have to do on a few tables. I am assuming that it is the fact that I have a 256mb card, so I am going to upgrade.

Do me a favor, smakx, find Wall231 by moving the light images out of the way and clicking just above the drain. Right click it and draw it in front. Be sure to put the lights back.

See if that helps.

I knew we were in for some issues with some of the things we did on this table, but I'm really hoping it's minimal and everyone can enjoy it the way I had hoped.

@ marv - I could never do it without UncleReamus. He deserves a BIG thanks for keeping me motivated in table development.

Make sure Reorder is unchecked before clicking play after making that change, or it'll be pushed to the back again. And save after you make the change if it works.

Great job on the table!

Plays and looks much better than the one on my Williams Collection for the Wii.

Thank you Noah & Uncle Reamus. Looks fantastic, lighting effects really make this table shine. It was well worth the wait wink.gif I have had zero problems with the table, even with multi-ball. Intel Quad core 2.5Ghz Nvidia 8800gt 512mb ram. Running at 1600x1200 32bit.

I love the spinners and the wind graphics. (nice touch) I think the spinners work better than the 360 version.
I think VP has been reborn. All these great tables along with the VP updates, Good times!

This has got to be some of the best lighting effects I have ever seen on a VPM table.

Now I don't have to play that crappy real life version that they have at a local arcade called Flipper McCoys were I live at no more. There table needs an overhaul ASAP. The VPM version created by Uncle Reamus and Noah Fentz is way better than the real life pinball table.

Thanks Uncle Reamus and Noah Fentz

Ok, I tried moving Wall231 to the front, and that didn't work. I loaded the original unedited table, and turned the res in vp way down to 800x600. I could see the apron image then, but it was dark and weird looking. I can take screen shots and send the somewhere if that helps. Hopefully i will have my new vid card tomorrow and I bet that solves it smile.gif

Yeah, the new card should do it.

The fact of the matter is ...

To run the most demanding tables properly, you need a GOOD vid card.

Some feedback from ATI users would be great, btw, folks!

Thanks for the great comments. Wii and 360 ... eat your hearts out tongue.gif

I'll be building a cab in January.

After that, I can do FS versions with the proper lighting using reels. Sorry, but you'll have to wait until then.

It runs pretty good for me in SF mode with only a 1.35ghz....just added Yieldtime to the script....on any table I get a little slowdown when the flashers go nuts...but believe it or not it runs pretty good...Reels take up less CPU than drop walls and well you guys have done a superb job. Thank you both! smile.gif
