File Submitted: 25 Jan 2020

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): HSM
mfuegemann
Manufacturer: Alvin G
Year: 1981
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

A VPX conversion of mfuegemann 's VP9 Table.

I had a lot of hours into this before I realized that 32assassin had already released a VPX conversion of this table, but I was to far along to quit.
A portion of code was borrowed from his table to run mfuegemann's dB2s file correctly.  STAT is credited for adding this code.

Enjoy!

Does'nt hurt to have two different copies of this machine, so thank you.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Exceptional rubber physics here. On a lot of other tables the ball bounces on a rubber like a wet hay sack on concrete. Here the ball behaves like in a real pingame with a new set of rubbers. Great!

Thank you, I like this version. It plays well and looks good.

For some reason I can't get the backglass to play the ball on the secondary playfield after a drain., and I remember this used to work in VP9 if I'm not mistaken.

For the record, I have the same problem with 32assassin's table, except that there the additional playfield is not even showing up, like with this version.

I wonder what am I missing...

I think there should be much "IDs" for the Ball Animations in the directb2s - if you could check the VPXScript, you will see something ( ... is wrong or even all is fine ),

sorry, i cant check that at the moment, away from home ...

Hi,

the Ball-IDs are in to control the B2S snippets, that should be visible at a specific ball position. It is not possible to move a snippet in B2S, so we have to add lots of snippets.

The current number is a tradeoff between chunky movement and a PITA placing process in the B2S backglass.

The rubber physics are pretty standard, but the playfield friction is really low, much lower than what I use :) That's what gives those small jumps when the ball hits the rubbers.

Cool thanks for the informative post. So it's not new rubbers, just a highly polished playfield. I have always felt there really should be next to no playfield friction with clean balls and a well polished / maintained machine.

I have looked at the script but I don't see a way to disable the playfield "backglass" popup.    The B2S works fine.     Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Naboo,

in my VP9 table there is a sub called "ActivateBackBox" that is called from the solenoid once the backglass animation starts. There all needed walls drop up or get visible and the gravity is changed. This should be similiar in the VPX version.

I need this for the animated B2S too, as I copy the ball movement from the VP table to the B2S backglass. In the B2S version of the VP9 table, the artificial backglass playfield is moved outside the visible area, though.

If You have any further questions, please PM me.

Michael

Thanks Michael...     So if I understand, I can comment out the sub call to "ActivateBackBox" in the script or I can move the artificial backglass off the playfield area visable area.

Thanks for the help.

Tim

Hi,

if You want to keep the animated backglass functionality (Sub BallPosTimer_Timer), it is best to move the objects just a bit to the side, so they are not visible.

In the VP9 table they are on layer 6, so it is easy to select them. The relative ball position is calculated against the trigger "BOrigin" at the lower right corner of the emulated backbox area.

So make sure this one is moved too.
