File Name: Kingpin (Capcom 1996)_Bigus(MOD)

File Submitter: bigus1

File Submitted: 21 Sep 2019

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME - MOD Tables

Author(s): Bigus1, ICPJuggla
Manufacturer: Capcom
Year: 1996
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Unspecified

This rare table is from ICPJuggla. It's really good fun with a few twists.
I've given it a makeover.
3.0 has 6 missing (very active) flashers added. Thanks noitbe1 for the info.
4.0 has added playfield mesh and new layout to properly fix LEX hole and it
makes a big difference to the game flow, without all the previous delays.
Enjoy :)

Didn't Fren make this table originally?

I’m pretty sure it is Fren’s table.

Ball is being obstructed by "ramp2" here and causing it to become stuck.

Ball is being obstructed by "ramp2" here and causing it to become stuck.

It's bumper 2 that's the problem - it magically transforms into a super-magnet that traps any nearby balls. I've seen it grab 3 balls at once. Totally baffling and wasted days trying to fix it.  I added a workaround that defeats it most of the time. I was waiting for someone else to mention it because I thought it might only be happening to me.

Oh well, I guess the workaround is doing it's job most of the time :)

But if you move ramp2 off the table. The obstruction is gone. :juggle: Seems like the ramp here. But I could be wrong.,

Honestly, I've watched it happen with no ramps at all on the table. It's the weirdest thing. Some strange physics interactions going-on somewhere. And it's intermittent, which translates into days of testing. It only seems to happen when bumper 2 is hit at 2 o'clock and it's like the bumper and surrounding surfaces magnetize and grab the ball and any other balls that collide later. Then the ball moonwalks around the bumper, through solid walls sometimes, and often ends-up under the plastic below the bumper.

Anyway, the workaround made 95% of games succeed, so I've admitted defeat and settled for that instead. For now :)

If you add a control point in the middle of Ramp2 it will allow the ball to go underneath the ramp.

Was the issue with Ramp 2 fixed for this version? Because two things happened with the old one:

1) The ball would fall off of the Ramp 2 to the left and the right and would get stuck

2) The ball would go up Ramp 2, hit nothing half the time, and come back down

Yes all fixed :)  It's the ball traps fix that I mentioned. The table plays quite differently now.

Thanks, Bigus! My 5 year old son is a HUGE fan of this table and I promised him that the person who made it would fix the ramp issue (the table was still playable, but you know kids) and that he would be slinging the ball around on it soon. :)

Oh! Real quick...this has nagged at me a long time: i don't think it's the fault of your table but the ROM for Kingpin seems to have long delays on table triggers.

Hitting The Lex Hotel during boss battles, there seems to be like a 10 to 15 second delay between the time goes into the scoop/hole and the game reacting to it. I don't know if it's a ROM glitch or what but I figured you or someone else has run into this issue and knew what the issue and solution were.

Let me know when you have a second. :)

It's Capcom's last machine, they didn't make many and there's only one rom, and I'm confident that it's the rom.  I really like Capcoms.

This is a notorious Capcom thing. My Pinball Magic has the same long delay when the ball locks in the trunk. Annoying as hell IRL.

It's odd that Capcom won't give pinball owners the time of day and fix a rom...seems to me that it's a pretty simple coding error that needs to be ironed out.
