File Name: Firepower (Williams 1980)

File Submitter: 3rdaxis

File Submitted: 06 Dec 2018

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): A 3rdaxis, Slydog43 and G5K Collaboration.
Manufacturer: Williams
Year: 1980
ROM: Link to ROM
Media Pack: Link to Media Pack
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

VPX Beta 10.7.3
Thanks again to the community for all of your help with effort. Everyone was incredibly helpful with anything we needed to get this one done.
And thank you to the previous Firepower authors that gave us the foundation for this build. Could not have done it without you all.

I have hopefully given everything within my abilities to make this as close as possible to the real machine.
Personally owning four Firepowers and restoring countless others has hopefully lent itself to making a perfect digital recreation.

Thank you Slydog43, always a pleasure and of course with a great machine to use for a solid 1 to 1 reference too compare our efforts including physical characteristics and visuals.
Thank you G5K , your passion for this format is as equal too if not greater then mine. Beautiful work as always brother and I look forward to future creations.

A very special thanks to Ben Logan, xzotic(SpaciesArcade) and Sliderpoint for beta testing, critical de-bugging and invaluable feedback. More helpful then you know.
Please feel free to reveal any issues you may have and or suggestions. They are ALWAYS welcome.

I recommend turning off AO (Ambient Occlusion) in video preferences and keeping ScSp turned on.
Anything else (Anti-Aliasing, Post-proc AA) will depend on your set-up.

I look forward to the next VPX build. I'm sure a lot of you know what that might be;)
We have a few table options for you to enjoy in the script as follows:

Yeeeesss! Such a gem. Visual stunner that plays like a dream. New target animations are killer. Fantastic physics. Great sound effects. Cool extras. What more could you ask for? Love this one Slydog, g5k and 3rdaxis! Thank you.

OMG, S P E C T A C U L A R!  :surprise:

What an incredible recreation, the visuals are simply stunning. Awesome playability, behaves just the way I remember with fierce bumper action and ball jumping off the targets. Instant classic. Can't thank you guys enough!

p.s. side effect of all this greatness: my current backglass has been totally outclassed, lol

Thanks guys!

You can directly thank our friend G5K for that. This was 3d modeled in 3dsMax and rendered out from Maya. Along with some other software in-between.

Thanks 3rdaxis for building a really great table, I think you’ve managed to make it really challenging. Looking forward to playing rather than testing and reaching the elusive multi. Well done mate.

Has anyone looked at the images in the Media Pack? It has images for both Firepower and Farfalla tables.

Hahahaha. Every time someone played my Firepower the look on their face when the ball smacked the glass was priceless. Hopefully I have re-created that reaction;)

Right back at you my brother. It's been a nice break to finally just sit back, relax and play it as intended.

great, it not only looks stunning the physics are also spot on!  :otvclap:

I love all the options especially factory light and music. Anyways, I would consider rooting the two music sounds to the backglass, sounds better than out of the deep of my cab ;).

very impressive work 3rdaxis and team.   :dblthumb:

a couple little niggly things.

StandupTarget6 and StandupTarget4 do not extend beyond the rubber object so cannot be hit.  You also appear to be missing StandupTarget8 which I'm guessing would go in the upper left by StandupTarget1.  In general on those standuptargets you may want to widen out the hit side a bit so a slightly off center hit of the ball on the rubber will also trigger the switch, how much wider varies by table builder, but probably wider than what you currently have at least on the longer rubbers, but of course up to you.

I like your ComboTriggers on the stand up targets, but am wondering if that could possibly introduce a double hit on one of the targets since the ball still hits the target, or maybe the rom ignores them that close together, can't tell by playing.

The table looks and plays excellent! The cabinet POV settings are just perfect!
Great optins and extras, great LED inserts, crisp instruction cards. ..........
Superb - thanks a lot to ALL involved!

Btw, the target animation is looking great. Maybe it would look even more realistic if it would move a bit faster.
No complaining - just to give feedback.
