File Name: Fast Draw (Gottlieb 1975) VPX

File Submitter: mfuegemann

File Submitted: 03 Jul 2016

File Category: VPX Recreations

Author(s): mfuegemann
Manufacturer: Gottlieb
Year: 1975
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

This is Fast Draw by Gottlieb.

this time I used my own machine for photos of the plastics and to create a redraw of the playfield. My son Lars helped me recording the mech sounds, so the table sounds almost like the real one.
Thanks go to Zany, who made the Flipper models and to JPSalas for the The EM Reel images. Hauntfreaks contributed an environment map and the shadow layer.
Arngrim added the DOF calls and the Chimes.

Several options can be adjusted at the top of the script.
- If You want to run the table in FS mode without a B2S backglass, there is the option "ShowPlayfieldReel" that enables several displays on the main screen to keep You informed about Your score, Ball in Play etc.
- The option "B2SOn" enables the use of a B2S backglass.
- "ShowHighScore" enables a paper strip on the apron, that shows the last HighScore. It will show the correct score, even if the EM Reels have rolled over at 100.000 points. (the code is based on GTXJoe's Post-It Highscore tutorial)
- "RollingSoundFactor" adjusts the sound level of the ball rolling and hit sounds
- "ChimesEnabled" controls the Chime sounds

The table rules are scripted, so You do not need a ROM file.

Have fun and please use the support topic to post any findings and suggestions.

Michael

here some changes I made to the aesthetics of the table

- to get rid of the foggy GI I set the modulate to .99 or "1" would work just as well...

- added and environment HDR, and because this is an EM and has shinny parts, I use my overhaed_vpx  and set it to 4

- I also created a shadow layer since VPX no longer has that feature

- changed the ball to my personal preference...

I didnt add it but i believe the kicker cups i made for borg would be the right ones for this (I cant code the animation)

Thx Michael for your great table!!!

I only noticed a graphical "glitch":  if the ball rolls through the upper lanes (?) (the lanes spelling A-B-C) it appears a very small black line...

In the moment when the ball rolls over the small "wire" in the middle of the lane... it is only visible 1 second...

(((I have no idea of the script stuff...but as a complete newbie I would describe it like this:  as if the program displaying a graphic called "show picture: wire is bend down" , but the wire is not UNDER the ball but it is ON TOP of the ball... (sorry, very confusing, isn´t it?!?!?!?!) )))

----------------------

Maybe someone has the same problem... maybe it helps somehow...

I can live with this little glitch... but maybe you can fix it somwhow...

Best regards :)

Very nice, I'll always love more em vpx tables!  I really like all the sounds you have, but I have to ask, does your's not have chimes?

Hi hauntfreaks,

thank You for the modulation hint. Can You PM me on how to implement the shadow layer? The kickers are animated now - I just was a bit lazy...

@BorgDog: there are no chimes within my machine.

@sifusun: I cannot spot the strange line. I use only default triggers there. Maybe You can change the Halo height of the lamps around the Rollover to a different level (Light9-Light12 to 26, 27, 28, 29)

Interesting, did it never have chimes or did someone take them out at some point? Can you tell?

I had a line on another table "whoa nellie" that I was able to solve thanks to someone else... it involved clicking on a part of a table and unchecking visibility on a "side" option.  Sorry, that is probably a horrible description, and not really sure if it's the same problem.

Michael, great to see you doing an official release in VPX! This table plays great and is a lot of fun to play. Please tell your son he did a GREAT job recording the sounds, there have been many versions of Fast Draw but none of them sounded this real. Really enjoying this one, thanks and hope you keep going in VPX :otvclap:

Hi Michael!

Thx for advice... I will look into that direction :)   (Have a similar problem with "Genesis vpx" - maybe I can solve it like that)

Thx again for the table (and your son for the beautiful audio job :) ...

Best Regards

I get a permission denied error on 1316

Set ScoreFile=FileObj.CreateTextFile(UserDirectory & HighScoreFilename,True)

Hi,

do You have a folder ..\Visual Pinball\User with sufficient permissions? Sometimes it causes problems, if You installed Visual Pinball within the programs folder.

Hi, mfuegemann... thanks for the great table.  I like that you added in an option to easily toggle the hi-score sticky off and on, so that we can check the hi score, but don't have to have it on the table all the time.

By any chance, is there any plan to add the chimes?

Hi Zany,

the light is indicating a Double Bonus - 2K instead of 1K for each white center light. It is lit once You have completed the A-B-C lights. At the last ball the light starts lit and the A-B-C lights advance it to Triple Bonus.

The Hole Special is lit by completing one Drop Target bank while the A-B-C lights are lit and the center bumper alternates the Special, by the way.

Pinball999: listening to the videos, I am quite happy that my Fast Draw has them missing. I still have to find out, if they have been removed or if the Pin was designed that way. But I will by no means add any chimes to my Fast Draw (virtual or real) :).

Regards

Michael

Hi,

I just corrected a minor bug that caused an additional EM Reel rollover after the first game. The apron now is a primitive too with version 1.2.
