Some of you may remember playing old DOS games.
For those who don't know what DOS is, I will explain.
DOS is an acronym for "Disk Operating System," which was originally invented to operate the IBM PC.
DOS is a computer language.
Before Windows was invented, you had to type into a command prompt, to get your computer to do anything. Windows is just basically like a batch program, to where you don't have to type commands into a prompt. You just click something in a WINDOW these days instead of typing out a DOS COMMAND.
To play these games on computer systems these days, you will need a program called DOSBox.
Some of you may already know about this program, and some of you may have trouble understanding how it works.
I will show you a method that maybe not many people know about.
With this method, You will not need to know anything about DOS or what to type to get game started.
THE GAMES WILL AUTOMATICALLY LOAD WITH THIS METHOD
First of all,
You will need to download the DOSBox program.
Find the one that installs into program files here.. http://www.dosbox.co...load.php?main=1
There is also a "Portable" version. Portable means that you dont have to install. It can be run from any folder you choose.
Find Portable version here... http://portableapps....dosbox_portable
And the Direct Download Link to Portable DOSBox...
http://downloads.sou...=skylineservers
Also you can check out these other great "Portable" Apps...No need for installation!!!
http://portableapps.com/apps
This Portable version comes in an EXE file. Just double click and then choose which folder you want to extract it to. I extract to My Documents. It will make a folder called DOSBoxPortable. Inside you will find the DOSBoxPortable.exe.
Ok I want you to go to where you can see the EXE for DOSBox.
If you used the non-portable version, you will find EXE by clicking START button in bottom left of your computer, Then click MY COMPUTER (May just say Computer) Now you should see your drives Starting with the drive that your Windows is installed in. (Usually C: ) ..Double click into C: and find a folder that says Program Files...double click folder and find DOSBox-0.74 folder. Go inside folder and you will see the DOSBox.exe. (For the Portable version the EXE is DOSBoxPortable.exe.)
Once you can see the EXE, you are ready to load game. LEAVE THIS WINDOW ALONE as you will be using it real soon. NOW CLICK THE START BUTTON LOCATED AT LOWER LEFT CORNER OF YOUR COMPUTER AND CLICK MY DOCUMENTS.
SO THAT YOU CAN SEE 2 DIFFERENT WINDOWS ON YOUR SCREEN AT SAME TIME.
Download your games to documents and extract the files. Go inside the game folder and find an EXE or some are BIN.
You will be dragging WITH YOUR MOUSE this "DOSGAME".EXE (Name will vary according to game) into window where the DOSBox EXE is, and you will drop it exactly over the DOSBox EXE.
To drag and drop just left click on the GAME.EXE and hold down until you slide mouse to position it right over the DOSBox.EXE that is in the first window that you opened, and then let go of left mouse button.
MAKE SURE YOU ARE DIRECTLY OVER DOSBOX.EXE WHEN YOU DROP FILE, OR YOU MAY DROP IT SOMEWHERE YOU CANT FIND!!!
With this method all these DOS games will start automatically. Whether it's a BIN or EXE, just drag it to DOSBoxEXE and it will start game. This works also for ISO files. Just drop the ISO file directly onto the DOSBox EXE.
You can press Alt-Enter to go into fullscreen and back after the game is loaded.
NOW THERE IS NO NEED TO KNOW HOW TO RUN DOS TO GET GAMES TO WORK.
