Well I have decided to start my custom virtual pinball cab. I will be using a 46' decased Sony for my playfield, A 32" for Backglass and a decased 15" PC LCD monitor for the DMD. While making my decisions on how and what I wanted to do I got a little stuck on what I wanted the playfield angle to be so that is when I decided to attempt to make the playfield adjust its angle with the use of a couple  of linear actuator motors I have laying around. I am going to try and have the playfield automatically go near the top glass when a table with no strobes or leds are used then back down when they are. Perhaps their is something in the tables script that I can customize to do this with my pacwiz64. I will also have the ability to manually move the playfield to suit my tastes as well. I will update as I continue though the build.

This one shows the beginning of what will become the aluminum frame for playfield to mount on to eventually hinge

Nice! What are those glides for? 36" long? Must be for the playfield.

If it ain't broke, it's probably a good idea to take it apart anyway!

I just post here to hear myself type.

Like the idea of a motorized playfield, must be doable in script....

I think they are just 24" long and going to be used for the computer. I have a Home Theater PC case laying around and I am going to use it for this build. It stay cool and is quite.

Yeah its pretty big. It is being worked on by our car audio Department. I am in the Home Theater side of it.

Well at least the monitor fits! I wish I had left some wood on the top edge for the glass to sit on though. I gotta think about that one.

I will attach the aluminum frame to the side of the cabinet to make the hinge. I have the frame out to the welder to beef up the joints.

Well I got to work on the backglass since the playfield monitor frame is still at the welder.

The main backglass monitor has no real mount I just notched the sides so that it slides right down in. I will do the same with the plexi for the speakers and DMD Viewing. I can literally remove four screws that is on the top's back board, unplug power and the HDMI and slide it right out. With all the extra room behind the backglass monitor I may just put my amp and amp power supply there.

Looks like I got lucky as the DMD monitor can stay right where it's at when I swing down the backbox.

Does anyone know if the DMD display setting size can be adjusted for each table or is it one size for all? I have noticed on a table that looked like it had a big DMD display I think it was Flipper Football and was going to make my DMD plexiglass window to show as much of the monitor as possible and just (hopefully) adjust the size of the video out to the DMD monitor for a few tables that could maybe use a bigger screen.

I saw a guy with a sled build called Darth Viper(Yamaha, all black with burgandy pinstripe and such). Sweet sled. Love the cab!

What monitor is the DMD? I do not see it possible to fold down the backbox unless you have some very unusually weird DMD monitor, maybe I misread. It is a LCD monitor, right? I think a real DMD is around 12 3/4" X 3 1/2". I think most, if not all, DMDs are the same size unless it's a really early one. Great work! Wish I was painting. I wrote this in most build threads I visit, I have no idea yet how to run any of the 5 programs needed for a cab. I got as far and bringing up more monitors from basement to hook up to learn B2S but never got that far. I guess I could install DOF and put a few channels of LEDs or solenoids to learn the basics of that. I have only seen 1 example of all the configs used for a table and I gotta say, my hats off to arngrim. I would love to learn that stuff.

You can adjust the size and position of every table that uses the DMD. I adjust mine the first time I run the table for size and position and colors and then it is set. I will also fine tune the settings of the table for my visual preferences like z-depth, layback and slope and make sure that it fills my 46" monitor.

It was just an old non-widescreen PC monitor I had laying around from when I moved to a bigger size. It does actually fold down with the LCD(DMD) monitor installed. It just sightly goes down into the cabinet when installed but misses everything when the backglass folds down.

Thats good to know thanks, I have been setting up PinX at home with just two monitors and  will have to go back and do some readjustments once I have all 3 screens going in the cab.

Nicely done! That's awesome. Bravo

I also like you LEDs for the speakers. I am assuming there is a space between where you hard mounted the speakers and the speaker panel and covers. And in that space some led strips?

That's correct. I was able to get a 16ft RGB led strip for like $10 from some Chinese web site. Was enough to cover the bottom of the cab and between the speaker and grill cavity.

mviars any chance of getting the model number of the playfield screen and what plans did you use for the cab if any?

In the planning stages of a widebody build and the config you have with your playfield and cab is exactly what I'm looking for :D

In the planning stages of a widebody build and the config you have with your playfield and cab is exactly what I'm looking for :D

The Cabinet is base on a widebody plan with the width being 25" to accommodate a standard widebody lockdown bar. The TV was a Sony slim style 46" not sure of the model off hand but I do know it is no longer made. Basicly the inside dimensions for a widebody with 3/4"  wood is 23 1/2" if you router out a grove in the wood you could get to 24 1/4" but that is about it. Things to look for in a playfield monitor would be at least a 120hrz refresh rate, good contrast ratio(better black levels make the colors pop), good brightness(make sure to turn off any eco or light dimming sensors or else your brightness goes up and down), also very important is good side viewing as that's pretty much how your going to always be looking at it. Lastly It's nice to have a TV that can turn on when power is applied. Hope this helps.
