Kingdom Hearts VP9

Version: VP9
Category: VP 9.x Originals

Author(s): Eala Dubh Sidhe, DesAngel

Description:
An early-80s Williams style original inspired by the Squaresoft RPG series.
Original VP8 release, April 2008. Revised and updated for VP9, November 2010.

(Minor image and script update, November 18th 2010.)

Changes for VP9:

* Complete overhaul of game physics.
* Increased texture resolution. (Playfield image adjusted to reflect rules changes.)
* Dropwall playfield lights changed to VP9 lights instead.
* Active light reflections generated using reels. (Revised to eliminate potential ball lag due to continual reel refresh.)
* Changed a number of game rules.

Eala, I have always enjoyed your original tables and I Thank you very much for bringing this amazing table to VP9. I can't wait to give it a try and see how it is compared to the previous version with the rule changes and all smile.gif

Full-screen would be relatively easy to do without too many compromises. Only the reflective decals and reels make the table angle-dependent as it is; the pops are standard VP caps on top of playfield-drawn bases that act as standard lights; the perspective trick should still work in full-screen. Like I said, if anyone wants to do it...

heh - I didn't really see that coming, right out of left field Sabbat... actually, I'm going to start a VP9 rebuild of Sinbad today/tomorrow and I'm working on some graphics pieces for one of UW's future projects. I'll try to squeeze this in but no promises... m'kay?

Best Regards,
Todd.

p.s. - the playfield redraw for Sinbad is coming from a new source - be on the lookout for his wip thread soon.

I played both KH and KH II for the PLAYSTATION ONE years back! it's fighting system was new and took a while to get used to, but that lock on was great as were the later fighting weapons and well, I won't say too much lest someone here wants to play it so guys (gals) it was for the PS1, some years ago!
this is the first table for me to use mp3's didn't know you had to unzip them first before putting them away in the music folder. ...figured it out eventually, duh. I got the table last night and played it. NICE!! cool.gif nice lighting too! busy play field, I've yet to scratch the surface as I only played it twice, but very nice indeed!

If you disable collidable on the bumper rings, the ball can't get stuck on the pop bumpers. I'd also probably try to set the hit threshold for the captive ball targets to be 1 instead of 0 and see if that changes anything. All your other targets have a hit threshold of 1 or higher.

Aha, that explains a lot - it was the rings the ball would get stuck on. Cheers for that.

Changing the hit threshold on the captive ball target doesn't make any difference though (I set it to zero to try and remove the problem), so I've no idea what's responsible for that. Oh well, just treat it as an occasional switch misfire just like on a real machine. tongue.gif

Excellent work Eala! Here is a quick FS version I made showing a comparison between 4:3 and FS.
In the FS you only lose the metal reflection since it was a nice decal, but perhaps we could apply a metal texture to the walls.

We can display the backglass and displays with the hyperpin front end and some UVP magic. Its been done with JPs version of Spiderman.

That looks great Luvthatapex! One suggestion, you may take it or leave it, I found that on the backglass, setting the inclination to 38 gave the flippers a more natural look. (it looks like you may have used 45 for the inclination setting in that screenshot. Are you going to rotate the scores and put them at the top of the screen like other folks have been doing? Like Bob has been doing for his FS conversions?

Todd.

Actually, you're right 38 does look better, thanks.

I was thinking of adding the full backglass on 2nd monitor along with the score displays ala UVP. Its possible! Stay tuned.
