Hi, I have the latest VPX 10.2 and Pinmame 2.8.  When playing Scared Stiff, the sound steps on itself.  I've tried deleting the registry entry for the rom to have it re-create from scratch on next play but it didn't help.  Other vpx tables seem to be fine.  Is there a setting or something I should tweak that could help?  Oh, I also lowered the volume on this table but it didn't make a difference.

I believe I've had the same issues with VPinmame while running the 90s games that Gottlieb / Premier made.  The only thing I can honestly suggest is that you try bringing down the sound sample rate.  For example, Freddy A Nightmare on Elm St. - Gottlieb has stutter issues at 48000, there was no more stutter after I brought the sound sampling down to 12000 or 10000.  Hope this helps!

Is this also happening for you guys if you use the older VPM2.7? (you can use the minimal VPM package and just overwrite the dll for easy testing)

I am having the same problem, but have only noticed it on Scared Stiff.  I will try Toxie's suggestion and post if it makes any difference.

Thanks! Then it would also be interesting to know if you guys changed something in the registry (especially whats the value of ddraw then? 0 or 1?)

Toxie's suggestion worked no more double sound problem.  I am able to play, but get this script error. VBS script error:Modulated flasher and solenoids not supported in this version.

I'd love to help test but it appears my cabinet motherboard is no longer booting.   Time for an RMA.

I had one Issue, but it was only with the "double" embedded DMD at Backdrop, and i use directb2s too.
Maybe that is one Problem ...

Cool.. you also have the double sound problem in the answer.. ;) ;)

Seriously though, the old VPM2.7 did not feature modulated flasher support yet. But i was just curious if this will fix your problems with the sound, as there were tons and tons of changes with the sound in VPM2.8.

I'll prepare a test build soon and get back to this thread when its done.

Its in the registry, but if you don't know about it, then you use the default anyway, which is the faster solution. I was just curious if that one was changed (as the ddraw=0 path is now higher quality but much slower).

So, here some homework for you guys having trouble with VPM2.8. Please test each one and check if you still get the sound issues or not.

Then please write for each one the result in the answer. Thanks!

Fastsinc seems to be the best on my hardware but still has slight stuttering on smb

As far as I've noticed I only get stutter on SMB (Scared Stiff has always been fine). Fastsinc fixes my SMB stutter completely, the stutter seems unchanged with all the other test dlls.

I'm running Intel Core Quad Q9550 @ 2.83ghz, 8gb ram, gfx - ATI HD 7850 with 2gb ram, Windows 10 64bit

Great : fastsync + sample rate at 32khz (using F1) has nearly completely eliminated sound stutter on super mario, thanks a million !

For me the stutter is repeating half a second or so of the music every 15 or 20 seconds. Like it's got out of sync and it's correcting itself maybe...

Does it if I play without a backglass.

I also have an old pinname from 4th Nov on my cabinet (downloaded from the other site) and that has no music stutter and is perfect... I could probably narrow it down a bit more build wise when I've got a bit more time.

here another test build. this should be even more dramatic as the fastsinc build, and does not even need to compromise the sound quality.

Sidebar - I was able to boot my pincab using my flaky motherboard/power supply.  A new power supply should arrive today :)

After testing, all the dll's produced sound stutter for me on Scared Stiff.  I didn't adjust anything prior to testing.

Stupid stutter goes on with every version. Driving me nuts. Only stutterless table so far is Shockman's Mr&Mrs PacMan.
