With this setting however, all tables crash with the message 'Machine terminated before initialized, check the rom path or rom file'.

I guess this means that the "less compatible" comment applies to my rig too. Or any way to fix this?

yes... to use this option you will need to go into the Vpinmame registration and make the DDRaw value a "0" not a "1" like it is as default

I've done this for just the roms that I use in VPX .... you of course wont need to do this for EM tables...
your also going to notice your machine main screen might go black or whatever.... this is the because the B2S and rom are loading after the table and pushing the vP player to the background... 
so you will have to Alt+tab to get it to the front.... if your using PBX as the front end.... read back a few pages there is a workaround to fix that 

 

this sounds like alot of work... and it is a big pain in the @$$ ....bbbuuuuttt..... the performance gain I have gotten is worth it ever it was 4x a PITA

whats happening is in the reg for each rom trying to use the true fullscreen option

so what you will need to do is go to regedit find the vpm reg values ... in each rom entry you will find a item called DDraw, it will be set to 1, you must set it to 0

you will have to do this for every VPM table thats being played with VP10

 

after this... you will get a BLANK screen

you will need to use Alt+Tab to bring the VP Player to the front...

this can be automatically done when using PBX ... and a EXE thats in this thread .... again please do yourself a favor and read this whole thread thoroughly.... every answer is here

i changed the default to dd 0 but still error check rom and after i enter then blank screen , then alt tab and still blank black screen when i press a button then i see the 3 option like normal , backglass works , dmd also blank also like sayed changing the default rom dd to 0 does not seem to change it on all roms to 0 like stated in threat.

You need to have VPX closed completely when you make the registry changes.

 

Also, don't forget Atarian's (sp?) tip about changing the "default" key... it changed my life.  lol

do you need restart for the changes to take effect ? i now have the table running only now dmd is on playfield monitor  also the dmd is resized ..

Well, setting the ddraw to 0 means that the DMD cannot be properly sized... which is a problem on my 2-screen cabinet.

But this indeed made the table work with forced fullscreen. The trouble is that I don't see any visible or measurable performance improvement although I was hoping this will help eliminate the microstutter I get on several (but not all) tables. But even in fullscreen, the ball microstutter is still there

My FPS value is the same 132-133 on pretty much all tables like in windowed fullscreen.

Adding the alt+tab issue on top of this, it appears the forced fullscreen is a no-go because it doesn't help on my rig. Hopefully these issues can be fixed once the beta will become the official new version.

Got AHK working fine now, thanks Atarian.  My only issue now is how to esc out of a table when testing with VPX.  It says hold esc but holding ESC does NOT quit back to editor.  I thought I saw how to fix this, but can't seem to find it now.  How do people quit out of a table without a Ctrl-Alt-Del?

I wonder if the "less compatible" phrasing could be removed from the "force exclusive fullscreen" option in VPX?  I'm sure it causes new guys to avoid using that option and potentially seeing some nice performance gain... therefore creating more performance questions on the forum, and interfering with their overall enjoyment of VPX.

 

I have yet to find a single table that was not compatible when I had exclusive fullscreen checked.  I believe I have run about 90% of the available VPX tables.

 

Additionally, a checkbox in the video options to turn off "ddraw", that would be automatically checked if fullscreen was on, would virtually eliminate all confusion surrounding this option... except the "alt tab" part.

its well know everyone's experience running every version of VP is differently .... so i would expect not everyone is getting the performance boost like some of use... but it should be at least a trial and error thing anyone wanting more out of there VPX....  nothing makes this perinate, it can always be reversed...

I don't even use the true full screen.. But my task bar still pops up over the pf..

I use pinballX

So do I still need this exe workaround?
