Tokimeki Forever With You - A Dedication to the 10th Anniversary of the Konami Game Series (1994-2004)

Double Potions Pinball Productions Presents

Tokimeki Forever With You 2.0

Themed on the Tokimeki Memorial game created and produced by Konami of Japan. Produced in recognition of the 10th anniversary of the series.

Please ask for explicit permission before modifying this table for public release. Mods for private use are fine, but unauthorized public mods do not bode well with me.

This table is meant for free download and was created to express appreciation for the game series and made for fans of the series, anime in general, and pinball. No infringement of any copyrights is intended.

This is another anime-and-game-themed table centered around the first game in Konami’s Tokimeki high-school dating-sim series. It was built back in 2004 in recognition of the 10th anniversary of the series which first debuted on the Japanese PC-Engine system in 1994. The game was ported over to the PS1 a few years later and was quite successful. The series has spawned one additional game on PS1 (Tokimeki Memorial 2), a Tokimeki Memorial 3 for the PS2 and there even exists a girls’-oriented version (I think it’s called Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side). The idea of these games is this: you start out as a first-year student at a Japanese high school and your objective is to get one of the cute girls in the game (or guys in the girl’s version) to fall for you by the time you graduate. These games have a series of stats that are tracked throughout the course of the game, and different girls look for high values in one or more of these stats. If you meet the requirements for the girl in question, she’ll fall for you at game’s end (in the original game, on which this table is based, she asks you to meet her at this large oak tree where she confesses to you).

When I first started building Tokimeki Forever, I figured it wouldn’t be possible to exactly duplicate everything that can happen in the original game (how can you exactly convert a 3-game-year time span into a 5-ball pinball game?), so things like the girls placing bombs on you are not in this game, but I thought I’d put in some elements from the original game that you can do in pinball (not the easiest of tasks, since I have never played the original myself. I have seen the original and researched online). Tokimeki Forever is an 80s style solid-state 5-ball game that features multiball, multiple drop targets, and a slots-type function. This is a game that will require good shot-making skills to get good scores and build up your stats to get one of the girls to fall for you.

The update to 2.0 was done in 2007 and was long-overdue, and has some minor bugfixes as well as some new features, including a new score display system used on the table, new backglass art, tweaks of the playfield and flippers to make shots easier to hit, increased the tables ability to retain the playfield state, and also added new Timed-Game and Single-Girl optional game modes.

Tokimeki Forever With You
Table Features

Statistic Tracking: The table has six stats it will track for each player. The six stats are: Looks, Smarts, Perseverence, Athletics, Science, and Arts/Humanities. Each of the twelve girls looks for high values in one or more of these stats. These are built up by hitting certain targets or groups of targets, and each can range from 0-999. At the start of the game, each of the six stats are initialized randomly between 30-70 (this can be changed in the Options menu). More information on the stats and the girls’ requirements can be found in the table rules dealing with the Tree Shot.

The game also maintains several statistics over multiple games, such as average score, number of games played, number of replays, and the number of girls won. Press the “S” key during Attract Mode to view the game statistics. Press the Delete key while in Attract Mode to reset the game statistics back to zero. You will get a message box asking you to confirm. Press the End key while in Attract Mode to reset the game’s high score back to default value. Again, you will get a message box asking you to confirm.

Slots: The table also features a three-reel slot-machine function. Each reel has 13 pictures: one of each of the girls, and the Evil Koala. The reels also change by hitting the bumpers. Shooting the stadium when the slots are ready will give you the option to take what’s currently on the reels, or to spin. The slots display will show “<TAKE-SPIN>” when the Stadium is hit and the slots are ready. To take what is on the reels, press the left-flipper key. To spin, press the right-flipper key. The table rules for the slots lists what the awards are for the different combinations.

Multiball: The table features a 3-ball multiball mode called Big Date Multiball. It’s activated by shooting balls into the Park, Museum, and Concert Locks. The table rules for the multiball show the state of the table during multiball and the point values.

Sequential Drop Targets: The table features multiple drop targets, including targets lined up one behind the other (the S-H-I-O-R-I, A-Y-A-K-O, and Y-U-K-O drop targets are like this) and others that are standard drop targets but offer higher point values if they are hit in sequence (Y-U-I-N-A and M-I-O).

Multipliers/Bonus: The table features a maximum bonus multiplier of 6x and a maximum field multuiplier of 5x. The maximum base award for the end-of-ball bonus is 109,000 points, which can be altered by both the bonus and field multipliers.

30-Second Ball Saver: Tokimeki Forever has a 30-second ball-saver which is activated at the start of each ball, and can be activated by winning certain girls. The Shoot Again light will be flashing as long as the ball saver is active. Balls that drain while the ball saver is active are placed back on the plunger after about 2 seconds. The ball saver is deactivated after 30 seconds or if the player tilts the game.

Ball-Return Gate: This is located on the left side of the table between the left inlane and outlane. This is activated by accumulating 120 total spins on all the spinners during the current ball, and can also be activated by winning certain girls. The gate prevents balls from draining down the left outlane when it is open. When activated, the gate is open for 30 seconds before it closes again.

Single-Girl Game: This is a new game mode for 2.0 that is selectable in the options. The idea is to better replicate the original dating-sim in a pinball format. The game itself is largely unchanged, though there are some special rules that will be explained more fully on the section of the rulesheet dealing with the Single-Girl Game.

Timed Game: This is another new optional mode for 2.0. Either the standard game or the Single-Girl game can be timed. Timed Games are also available in network play. Basically, a Timed Game is on e where instead of having a set number of balls to complete your objectives, there is instead a time limit which counts down while the ball is active on the playfield. Certain actions will award bonus time, while others will stop the clock for a moment or two. The game ends when the clock reaches zero; all other aspects of game play will be unchanged. This is more fully detailed in the Timed-Game section of the rulesheet.

Option Menu: The table has a full options menu that can be activated by pressing F6 while the table is in attract mode, giving the user access to several options affecting game play, such as balls per game, replay score levels, tilt sensitivity, and so forth. The Appendix of the rulesheet deals with the options menu.

Table rules can be found in the rulesheet text file in the zip. THere are two TrueTYpe fonts that should go in the Windows Fonts folder, and the included music files should go in the VP Music folder.

Hope folks like this, it was fun to build at the time, and it's still fun to play now.

thanks

I stumbled upon yummywinscasino.uk after a random UK gaming thread mentioned it in passing. The name made me laugh, so I figured I’d give it a shot. Honestly, it didn’t disappoint — the slots ran smoothly, and I liked that the interface wasn’t cluttered with flashy ads. I ended up spending a few hours testing different themes and even tried a bit of roulette. The layout was simple but felt polished, and the whole experience was surprisingly satisfying. For anyone in the UK who likes casual yet fun online gambling, this one works.
