Namkwah Hawkman Coelho

Intro by Carlos Guizzo:
Release – Namkwah (Inverted Hawkman)
The Namkwah is a real machine born from a unique concept in the Brazilian pinball scene. Created by Ricardo Coelho, from Racers Pinball Clube @racerspinballclube (Mauá, São Paulo – Brazil), it was his first mod, arising from the desire to have a mirrored machine alongside his original Hawkman, creating a unique visual effect. The project used Hawkman from Taito do Brasil (1983), based on Fathom (Bally, 1981), as its foundation, maintaining all original mechanics and electronics while completely inverting the visual experience.
The concept was a natural idea from Coelho, who always sought distinctive elements for his club. The proposal was simple yet revolutionary: create the perfect mirror of the original Hawkman, where every visual element would be horizontally inverted, creating visual symmetry when positioned side by side. The result would be something never seen before in the pinball world.
Mechanically, the machine preserved all characteristics of the original Hawkman. Challenges arose during assembly, where hardware had to be adapted to function on the opposite side. Drop target banks and other mechanisms were reconfigured to operate in mirrored position, making assembly more challenging than expected.
Visually, the project came to life through the meticulous work of DanielZ @danielzpinball, who faced unique technical challenges. Using a scanned playfield from the original Hawkman, he inverted all artwork digitally but had to manually recreate each legend to ensure readability. The process required extensive digital painting work, adjusting elements that overlapped after inversion.
The biggest challenge was the backglass, which demanded almost complete recreation. DanielZ inverted the base image but had to digitally remake several sections, adjusting positioning through advanced digital painting. Even the machine's name on the backglass was inverted, creating a striking visual effect that reinforces the mirrored concept. Each plastic was redesigned to function in inverted position, maintaining visual coherence.
The Namkwah represents more than a technical curiosity: it's a creative exploration of pinball design limits, where Brazilian engineering meets artistic experimentation, creating something genuinely unique in the homebrew pinball scene.
Release – Namkwah (Hawkman Invertida)
O resultado seria algo nunca visto no mundo do pinball.
