metallica VPX8 Stern
Table based on Metallica Pro by Stern, from 2013.
Thanks to:
freneticamnesic: for the Spikey and Snake meshes.
EbiIsLit for the playfield.
This is another "JP's" table, meaning it plays like the original, but there are some differences. In this table there are no layout differences, only ornamental. I have added some decorations here and there,
The playfield is based on the EbiIsLit LE playfield, I simply edited to be the Pro version of the table.
There wasn't any Pro version for VPX, so I thought, why not make one? I still think the Pro version of this table has a better flow than the LE version.
Notes:
- Yes, the snake is hard to hit, and the ball many times will just bounce inside the head and it will not lock, as the original does.
- The spinners don't exist in the Pro version, but I had to add them, but they are situated at the start of the ramps. They do not score in the game, they are just there for fun.
- The lights are not leds, they are good old lamps
So, there is no fancy Gi color lightning. But the LE version by VPW has incredible lightning
This table is for VPX8 only and it has been built and tested with RC4.
The ROM used is the PRO version, the latest for this table, download it from the Stern site and zip it to mtl_180. Don't use the LE or Premium ROM as they will not work.
Everything should work just like the original Pro version, if you find any bugs don't hesitate to write them in the Support thread

Very cool!! Thanks JP!!
I have sticking flippers, maybe my rom file is wrong.
any ideas
Sticky flippers? You are not using VPX8, or you are using a very old beta. Please update to the RC4 version.
press play and nothing happens. the ROM file is ok.
Are you sure? Remember the table uses the PRO version of the ROM, the le/premium will not work fine.
And please remember that these posts are meant for reviews only. Questions should be submitted to the Support Thread. This is important because nobody get notifications when someone posts something here.
So for questions and problems, always ask on the Support Thread ![]()
Thank you so much for your continued sharing!!!
This may be a silly question, my upfront apologies! I have always assumed that when a title from JPSallas starts with "JP's", it is not a 100% recreation but more considered to be a tribute to that title. Now I checked the screenshot of this Metallica and it seems quite like the original table. But -by far- not every table of the great JP starts with "JP's". So, what does it mean when the name of a table starts with "JP's"?
Thank you very much!

Did you name the rom mtl_180.zip and put it into the Roms folder ?
Note that the bin file is called mtl180.bin and the zip mtl_180.zip !
if still not working open Vpinmame setup.exe (or setup64.exe if you use 64 bit of VPX) , go to test, search for rom Metallica (V1.80.0) and click 'Check Rom'
Should look like this :

The table is 99% like the original, the layout is the same and it is as accurate as I can make it. But there are some extra decorations, like the two guitars on top of the ramps, the cemetery arch, the coffin on top of the captive ball, the crosses on the top lanes, the Metallica logo at the top side of the right ramp, the spinners at the start of the ramps, and the red diodes on top of those spinners, which replace the small logo on the ramps. There are also some changes to the lights too, like the colored 4 big lights at the bottom of the playfield, the skulls on the coffin red light. Also the two spot flashers on top of the slingshots they point the light to the snake. The snake also has a red tongue. I may have forgot something, but I think those are all the changes
I think there were enough changes to call it "JP's..." as the table wasn't 100% like the original ![]()

Hi ijustwantpinball,
Yes, I know that, but having more than 800 tables installed and working great on the VPX7, I think that I'll continue to use that older simulator for that, to avoid the VPX8 which has the files greater than the older simulator.
Anyways, thank you for your suggestion, enjoy your pinball cabinet have great days with it.
