Beat The Clock (Bally 1985)

I started on this in 2021 and never finished.  I released version 1.0 on 5/9/2023.   This started out as a VP9 to VPX conversion WIP posted by goldchicco back in 2021 (dboyrecords VP9 table).  So this is not technically a ground up build.  At some point in time...it will be.  But I have a lot of other fun stuff going on.  I've added multiple additions to the script.  All of the images were replaced.  I redid the rubbers, walls, lighting, and just about everything.  My next revision of this table will probably be a full rebuild.

Table include blue production plastics and black prototype plastics.  In the script is the option to change this.  Blue is now the default.

The zip file contains the table, a wheel image I created (IMO is awesome!), some screenshots, and a B2S file.  The B2S file was created by Kellogs.  Thanks goes to him for that.

This table would not have ever gotten started with out goldchicco's VPX conversion WIP and MarieDStLouis's (MeDiSt) playfield re-draw that she posted on the old vpinball site before it was shutdown.

Credits also goes out to the following:

GOLDCHICCO - VP9 to VPX conversion WiP
JPSALAS - Rolling Ball, LUT Selection, and VPX7 Rev2 Material Physics
JLOULOULOU - Flipper Tricks
ROTHBAUERW - Ball dropping sounds
NINUZZU - Flipper and Ball Shadows
DBOYRECORDS - VP9 Table
DESTRUCK - ROM, VP8, and VP9 Tables

As well as the entire VP community.  I am sure there is something in this table that someone, not mentioned above, in the community developed or created.

I tried this with vpx 10.74 as this is my default vpx and got this error Fatel error D3ERR_invalidcall (0x8876086c)

D:\a\vpinball\vpinball\shader.cpp:432.

If I run it in 10.72 it works now problem.

Great game though.

Hi, I have the 3 screen setup. All my other 100 tables work fine.
Having had another version of Beat the clock I can testify that the backscreen does work fine, just not with this table now.
Im pretty clued up in configuring tables etc.
I dont want to say it, but I think there is a coding issue. You will see that others in this chat have mentioned the same issue.
I love what you have done with the table appearances though. Well done

Oh wow !! I have been wanting this game to be worked on for ages now. Its one of my up there games.
THANK YOU !!!

Hey I did notice that while the backscreen shows, the scores do not.
Is that an easy fix for you? Otherwise I can give you a working backscreen for it that you can swap your image into. Let me know.

Great work !!!

EDIT: I notice that the ball never goes near the top A and B lanes. It used to on the older version. Not sure what has happened there.

Are you using a 2 screen setup or 3 screen?  The included B2S is really designed for a 3 screen with the scoring on the third display (aka DMD).  To get the look right you have to have your ScreenRes.txt file configured correctly.  So if you have 3 screens then your ScreenRes.txt file is not setup correctly.  If you have 2 screens then I suggest getting a 2 screen B2S.  There are several 2 screen B2S's available.

On the A-B shots.  I hit them all of the time.  It's worth noting that I did not just change the image files and call it a day.  Everything on the playfield was stripped off and re-done to match the original blackline for the playfield.

If you are using the included B2S then follow the instructions on this link to make sure the screenres.txt is completely configured:  https://www.nailbust...ension_location

On the B2S itself you need to make sure certain things are turned on.  I believe it is the DMD setting.  I can't remember and I am not in front of my machine.  You could also use another B2S.  There are at least three out there.  I did not create the B2S.

The table was built with 10.7.3 which is the last stable release of VPX.  10.7.4 and 10.8.0 are only beta.  While you can play with these versions I would not recommend it be your "default" version.  Just my opinion.  Do what makes you happy.

Looks Cool Thanks.

Thank you!

Really enjoying this old table.    Looks and plays great.  Lots of fun.   Thank you!

Thank You.

Thanks. Love that game ;-)

Beautiful table! Nice job, Jino etc!
