Thanks for the FS version Tii. smile.gif

Forbidden Planet is a classic and I really like the sounds on this table. This is another one of my favorite original tables. wink.gif

Mature, legendary actor (Walter Pidgeon); a young Earl Holliman (Wonder Woman); Leslie Neilsen (Police Squad) in his first role; 'Robbie' the robot (later modified for Lost In Space); great animation of the 'monster from the id'; a good storyline, and an 18-year-old Anne Francis (wink-wink, nudge-nudge, Say No More!*).....Forbidden Planet was the Avatar of its day.

With all of that in mind, I was wondering what I, as a table creator (which I am not), would pull from the movie to blend plot with gameplay. How about....a mode in which you're rewarded by sequential target hits or kickers...or whatever....but penalized by hits out of sequence: the first would trigger a mild warning of some sort and the second would produce the Robot's voice: "My beams are focused on your blasters, gentlemen"; the third bad hit would shut off the flippers for a short period of time. Just a thought from an old 4:3 dinosaur.....

GSG

*EDIT: Can't believe it took five months (and help from the Moogster) for me to notice that I hadn't capitalized the 'M' on 'More'. I'm such a silly bunt!

Does anyone know the background to the new UK pinball project to build a Forbidden Planet? Some tantalising mentions, but no detail, from the write-up of the recent South Coast Slam meet:

Is this a 100 or 3 machine type project? I really hope the former so I can buy one! ;-)

Is the playfield based on the FS original table here??

Upper playfield (I like the saucer!). The energy bars at the back are a marvellous bit of detail too:

It's a one-off machine that's been an ongoing project for around 18 months; the group is British with the exception of the lead designer, who is John Trudeau.

Very cool indeed, if you read farther down in the article it says that "Dr Flash" John Trudeau is the designer.
His designs include JD, Creature from the Black Lagoon, congo, flintstones, just to name a few...
I will be following this project with great interest.

thanks for posting

Ah, interesting! Do they have a website (I couldn't find one)?

They should get some investors (as in fans) to support building a reasonable number of machines. It's a really great concept, particularly if they based it on the popular original game from here ;-) With tweaks of course.

No website that I know of, and they guard their progress closely. I got to talk to John Trudeau last weekend and he mentioned this game he's helping to build.
They are only making 1 - if they make more than one the lawyers will swoop in and take them for all they're worth for selling stuff they don't have the rights to.
Looks like their skill shot layout takes up a whole lot of room.

Build a fire, vipers love the heat.
