Creature From The Black Lagoon (Scapino)

Version: 1.0.0
Category: VPinMAME 8.x Recreations

Author(s): scapino

Description:
My version of Creature. Took a whole year to complete!I started before Lander passed away, and finished after. This table is dedicated to his memory.
First Release v1.0 5-17-2007

Can you believe it? A YEAR in the making!!!

Its not that its was complicated (in fact its a rather simple table), but "real life" kept me away from the table for huge chunks of time, and it was often quite difficult to get started back up on it, after a month or two away.

This table has functioning GI, and the ramp chase lights work.

I wasnt able to get the GI working with the normal call back, so I used the new callback in PD's update to the scripts, version 3.26. The GI works fine now.

This table requires VPM 1.55 and later, and VBS scripts 3.26.

I have an option in the menu adjustments to turn off the active GI (and the ramp chase lights), in case you find it to stuttery on your computer.

This table also has the incremental plunger. Use the up and down arrow keys to adjust the strength, and hit enter to launch the ball. But it defaults to the original, Enter key only plunger.

Great table & a big surprise. hi.gif
I could not play this table on my previous computer, but now that i´m launching my tables with VPman where I can adjust the launching settings, in this case, uncheck "draw ball shadow", "anti alias ball", & disable DirectDraw, the table is playing smooth as silk! yahoo.gif good.gif

Arrrrg. Every time I try to play a new VPM table, some kind of error pops up.

For this one, I'm getting an error that tells me. "The format of this zip file is not supported!" And then vbs stops the whole thing from booting up. What does this mean? How can I fix it?

When I saw this thread pop up I thought, "Oh boy, Creature is going to get a much needed facelift".
But sadly, no, not yet.

How can Creature get any better than full decals and emreels like this? I'm sure Scapino would want to know what about his game is a "much needed facelift" - is it the photorealistic graphics? Is it the modelled rendering of the real machine? Is it the script, the layout physics settings? Is something broken? Is it simply the file modified date that is 'too old' ? I don't understand what you mean?

Unless it is just my system displaying poorly, it could use the new clear ramps.
Mine shows those horrible looking dots all over the ramps.

If you're running the last one in the list - unclewilly's table, click the ramps and change them to Alpha. Or ask Unclewilly to update it.
I don't think you can get horrible dots on the ramps with Scapino's table which is this thread - he used emreels and decals so it looks exactly like the screenshot on the first page.

Yes.
Turns out I am running a full screen version.
Did not see this was a desktop thread.
That does look awesome.
I will have to try an update my full screen as it does have the bad ramps.

It would seem there is only the one full screen version last updated in 2009.
Is there a newer full screen version of this table anywhere with better looking ramps?

This is a great table!
How can I get it to not set to the incremental plunger? Mine seems to default there. Is there a way to change it to a standard plunger?

Mine is set to incremental as default too. Just curious why you don't like this. There is no way to play this in a cab because it is a 4/3 reel table which is virtually impossible to convert.

Probably if you delete the plunger section in the script and then copy in a normal plunger script, that will do the trick. Try first before saving in case it doesn't work. It might not work because often things are much more complicated on reel tables. Your best bet is to copy in a plunger script from one of scapino's later tables that doesn't use the incremental system.

I use the X-Arcade Tankstick as my controller. I doesn't have the up/down arrows. I know I could reprogram to include those keys, but I haven't done that either. I have the plunger set to the operate when I pull back on one of the joysticks. It's just nice to run a game, load some credits, hit play and just pull the stick to launch.

Try the script change before you reprogram the keys. Hope it works for you.

Wow I almost feel like Homer, asking where the "Any" button is. Simple fix, no programing or script changes needed.

Hit the "P" key to toggle between standard plunger and incremental.
