For all you cab users, here's how it's going to go...
We will be using Steve's VPaint addon to do transparent plastics. Tables will be designed as angle-independent as possible, and we'll do two VPaint images for the 4:3 and FS versions.
Stationary toys will be part of the VPaint image. Moving toys will be reels, but I will do both versions.
Does VPaint work for everybody?

Sounds good to me, although I'm not entirely clear how the whole VPaint thing works, I'm sure if you guys make both of the images needed for 4x3 and Fullscreen/Spanned tables then I think we can figure out how to rotate and scale your tables for our cabs.

Todd.

I'll rotate them and prepare them.
I just want to be certain VPaint works for at least the majority of users.

I don't think I have ever heard of, or used Vpaint before. What is it?

Well I would like to voice my opinion against Vpaint. While I like the concept, there is a problem with it. When you use HP as your front end on a cabinet you can not exit a table very smoothly, Vpaint either causes an error or doesn't exit at all. If this issue could be worked out then I would be all for it.

No it doesn't necessarily make a table look better, it is just an easier way to add certain elements to a table, such as flashers, transparencies, etc. I assume Noah has developed a way to make very good flasher effects with it.

I believe Steve had mentioned he'd develop it further, if there was an interest...

well I dont see how I could make it interact with a third part front end unless it is integrated in the front end. but now that you have VP open source why dont get someone just replicating it into VP directly? I'm just creating a PNG overlay rendered over everything...that's basicaly it!
Actually I don't beleive that creating a "patch" over VP is a good thing.

Looking at the VP source code, I see alphablending mentioned throughout. For some things, it is enabled and others are not. I have never worked with DirectDraw or other features of DirectX, but I'm sure a knowledgable DX programmer could make some alpha transparency features available right in VP. That would be the way to go, as the ball can then render on top of these items, and things like ramps can render with true alpha transparency.
