I have used the software for years and copying the whole directory onto my new Windows 11 laptop hasn't worked.
I don't want to lose my many tables and roms that I've played forever.

Thank you to anyone who has any advice.
Having worked on computers for nearly 40 years I thought I had a little technical ability, but obviously not!

Update - back to where I started. I have the exe files but they don't work. This is exactly what happened when I copied everything over... I just get this error message 0xc00007b

I have tried running as administrator and I have downloaded and installed latest Direct X files. Still getting the error message.

It's a migration.

Some programs still need to be installed and/or Registered.

My recent migration is documented here somewhere. I (by choice) have less than 50 VPX tables.

The only thing I didn't do (which I hope to next time) is also export all the vPinMame stuff from the old computer's Windows Registry.

Hey mate, understand your mess, but don't worry it's possible. Always keep your source as backup first and foremost.

- on new PC install Baller installer (or VP main installer, this worked better for me as I had a different folder structure to Baller's default C:\Vpinball), then update to latest stable versions: VPX 10.8 2051, Vpinmame 3.6 or 3.7 beta, FlexDMD and B2S latest

- configure it so you can run a table without issues

- copy over your Tables directory and check if tables are running as expected. Also copy and overwrite the full Vpinmame directory (but only if you were on the same, current version). Important files are VPMalias, DMDdevice.ini, and of course your roms, altsound/altcolor and nvram, that will be preserved then

- you can also copy VpinballX.ini to keep your setting like key bindings.

- Export from registy Freeware/Vpinmame and import it on the new PC to restore your DMD settings etc.

Yeah, No.

IIRC, that was about me finally upgrading to VPX 64-bit Direct-X.

For now (on a new install of VPX v10.8.0) I'm pretty sure you can just use the normal VPinballX.exe (which is VPX v10.8.0 32-Bit for Windows Direct-X).

I've really only migrated my install a couple of times. Neither time was it acceptable to lose any tables or existing configuration.
a. Once I got a better computer to use
b. A year later ... I setup a "parallel install" when finally moving from v10.7.x to v10.8.0

Both times. I just did a normal install, then

a. Registered any required programs (as during a normal new install)
b. Copied over the obvious files
c. Copied over key config files

Seemed to work fine. All I really had to still do to most tables was to drag the vPinMame DMD back into place onto my cabinet's Screen-3.

So, more like this post (and follow that linked page):

If you don't get any further then let us know what exe is throwing the error. The error you mentioned sounds very much like an issue with pinup popper (rather visual pinball itself) - see http://https://www.v...=57483&p=554008
