Welcome, and yes it is a bit overwhelming at first.  I think its best to read a bit, find your way down a couple of deeper research paths, then pick something not too extreme as your first try at a setup.  No matter how you do it, have fun!

Welcome and good luck. I'm only about 3 months into my journey and I had to do clean installs a few times because I messed things up and couldn't fix them. The good thing is that people help each other out and there is a ton of guides. I mainly stayed away from vpx and stuck with FX because I thought it would be too complicated to set up and I only have a laptop. I'm so happy that I decided to get it started though as there are so many tables I can play and learn. Each time something goes wrong and you fix it, you do get a sense of achievement. Again, good luck with whatever you're planning.
