I just upgraded my 4 year old pinball cab, with 300 working tables, from VPX10.74 to 10.8.0.  I cannot get the surround sound SSF to work with windows 7.1 surround sound, no matter what I do, for the 64 bit version of 10.8.0. I even bought a new USB surround sound board, replacing the old generic one, with a new StarTech 7.1 card.  Using this card, with it's dedicated drivers (not the generic USB ones from Microsoft)  I was able to finally get the 32 bit version of VPX 10.8.0 to play SSF sounds and NOT destroy the older 10.74 sound from working after installing and running 10.8.8 for the first time. AI (Grok) says that this is a common bug and the new releases, such as 10.8.1 may address this problem. My computer is a good one, HP Omen tower with i7-10700K CPU, Win 11 (latest update) Nvidea 3070Ti video card, 32GB RAM.  I have gone through countless resets, Equalizer APO toggles on/off, deleted VPX .ini file, ran again, etc. Nothing helps. Anyone else gone through this? Any advice?  (It appears the 32 bit VPX 10.8 runs the VPX8 tables I have just fine...but I hear it's recommended to use the 64bit version so tables don't crash due to running out of memory.)

Sounds like you know what you are doing.

I also recently upgraded from VPX72 to VPX80 . Actually, I did (and still have) a parallel install of both. I could also easily install a beta of VPX81 and it would not affect the other two.

This is Windows-11 Intel-i7/16gb/GTX-1070, with SSF-7.1 using on-board Realtek. I think I just run (default) Direct-X 32bit but it works fine. I have 11 of my original 40 tables copied over.

PinballY can handle multiple EXE and starting folders, but I don't even run VPX72 or it's tables any more. It could also facilitate select use of VPX 64bit (but again) I see no need for it as 32bit works fine.

So, these items  ... I didn't have a problem with ...

1. Realtek drivers with on-board audio-device
2. 32 bit version of VPX 10.8.0 to play SSF sounds and NOT destroy the older 10.74 sound from working after installing and running 10.8.0 for the first time.

3. That thing AI-Grok is talking about

Going back to my 2nd sentence above ... there are layers of software here. They work together, but they don't really affect one another. I see them as:

OS (Windows 11 ... runs the video and audio foundations)
B2S Server

VPX (including its folder's particular vPinMame)

I also run PinVol and EQ-APO, but if you think they are interfering, just uninstall them for now.

Oh, and the Speaker Tester in Control-Panel/Sound should always be working for all speakers. If it's not 100%, then neither will VPX SSF7.1 be correct.
