G'Day Trend Setters,

In the process of determining the best positions for the various solenoids and SSF Speakers so if anyone has a 43" or better still a 48" playfield can you measure the distance from the front of the lockdown bar to the following:

1) Flippers

2) Slingshots

2) Pop bumpers

Most important are the Flipper position and the slingshots just above them.

I have a widebody cabinet with a 43" playfield with Cleveland Software Designs full builder's kit. Regardless of where I placed mine, yours will depend on what your physical build out and virtual table layout choices are. That is, if you choose to have an apron between the lockdown bar and the screen (either physically or depicted on the display), this will shift where the flippers appear. I do not as I wanted room at the top for a dot matrix set of LED's and flashers.

Assuming you will adjust your internal supports to accommodate wherever you want your solenoids and speakers, then I'd suggest the solenoid right below the buttons and then spaced out toward the backbox based on where the lower slingshots will appear. The upper set of solenoids are less sensitive as they are physically distant from your fingers and ears. The SSF speaker is less sensitive if you also have solenoids. If only SSF, then place the speaker just below the flipper buttons to maximize the feedback into the fingers and the rear ones in front of the backbox hinge so the backbox bolt doesn't dampen the rear speaker as much.

Just my personal opinion. Everyone has variations on this based on personal preference.

Radikal,

My playfield starts at the edge of the lockdown bar and goes all the wat to the top of a Williams widebody cabinet.

If I know your equipment relative to the front of the lockdown bar and you list apron length I can calulate rough position of where my equipment will be on the 48" screen.

The other option is to advise how far from the edge of your screen and screen size.  This will allow me to scale up or down.

Saves having to run a pinball playfiled before installing SFF and solenoids to determine position.

Got out the ruler.

Measuring from the top edge of the lockdown bar heading towards the backbox:

The center of the flipper/magnasave buttons is 1 7/8" and that is the center of the first solenoid

2nd solenoid is at 5"

3rd solenoid is at 8" (top half of a typical sling)

mid solenoids that run across the playfield are at 17"

rear solenoids that also run across the playfield are at 29"

Front SSF's are at 3" and mounted just below the solenoid row due to fit/spacing

Rear SSF's are mounted below and behind the playfield on the front side of the backbox hinge. It is mounted low enough to accommodate the playfield mounting and swing.

Thanks,

Just what I needed.

It will never be perfect as some od this equipment moves between playfields but it is a starting point.
