I installed everything using the baller installer. Tables load up just fine in VR but many are missing the DMD. It's showing out on the desktop but not in the VR room. Even after closing the table, the DMD still shows on the desktop and I have to close it separately. I've tried different solutions I've found on here but nothing seems to be working. Yes, I do have "Capture External DMD" checked.

It's not consistent either. The DMD in Lord of the Rings shows up in VR. But in Leprechaun King and Blood Machines, the dmd is out on the desktop only.

Hi

Any default DMD belongs to ROM DMD and normally is showed on VR screen.

But is better for VR DMD to use External DMD with DMDextensions 2.3.1 programm from github.

You will need after during the play game press F1 and mark the option as follow:

I think is your issue.

That doesn't seem to be it. The dmds show up correctly using the normal VPinball64 app but they don't when using the GL64 version for VR.

Hi

Some table doesn´t show the ROM table DMD properlly.

So it should be better to use external DMDextesions.

Have you Installed the DMDextensions?

Is your issue playing with DMDextensions?

I think so. Doesn't that install with the baller installer? There's a DMDext folder in the VPinMame folder

No no

That folder is a kind of backup and there is no programm inside

Download from Github the last DMDextensions 32 and 64 bits

Install first 32 and then 64 with their setup and keep their setup path

If any older version is installed, deinstalled and install the new version

and then, follow the instrutions as my first repply.

Thank you for your help. I downloaded and installed the DMDextensions as you said. However, F1 is not bringing up the window you showed earlier. Is there somewhere else to open that?

At first. It would be better to do this procedure not in VR

Press F1 and ALT TAB to shows up the ROM menu

There is no other window that opens with F1 for those games. However, F1 does open the window for games that were already working, such as Lord of the Rings, Time Fantasy, and Johnny Mnemonic.

F1 doesn't work for Blood Machines and Leprechaun King. The only difference I see is that those two games have their own DMD folders in the tables folder, "BloodMachinesDMD" and "leprechaun.UltraDMD". Their DMD's do show up on the desktop but not in VR.

I can also confirm that Ripley's Believe it or not, which doesn't have a separate folder, does work and VPW's Game of Thrones, which does have a separate DMD folder, does not work. So it does have something to do with those external dmd's but the F1 menu doesn't work with those. Is it something to do with flexDMD? That's what the external Game of Thrones folder is named.

@tomservo6
Maybe you need more to understand the differences at all Kind of Dmd...
The "F1" window come from vpinmame, it's ONLY with real Rom based Tables.
With a Rom, you can decide If the Dmd will be displayed/rendered with plain vpinmame OR with dmdext. See the Screenshot by emanoel299.
A table WITHOUT Rom (as Blood Machines, ...) Always needs ultradmd or better it's replacement flexdmd. And These needs Always dmdext AS renderer to Display the Dmd.
All settings and per-table-values for dmdext are stored in dmddevice.ini
One more Variant are Tables which uses pup to display a "Dmd window"

@digitalarts

Thank you for better explanation

@Tomservo6

As digitalarts said, there some kinds od "DMD"

Most of old tables are EM - Eletromechanical - 70´s

Others are SD - Solid state where you see Backglass with 7 segmanets LED display - 80´s

Others are with DMD - 90´s

Others are with UltraDMD and FlexDMD - 90´s, from 2000´s and original tables like Blood Machines

UltraDMD tables need a inside the table folder a especific folder for it.

FlexDMD not but they need the APP in VpinMame folder.

Below some pictures and I hope you understand:

Don´t worry. Visual Pinball is complex to understand but once you understood is very simple.

Thanks. I think I'm beginning to understand. I've confirmed that my file structure is the same as the images. However, when I ran the FlexdmdUI, it showed this:

screenshot2025-11-240734410.png

I then downloaded the correct files and it then showed this:

screenshot2025-11-240753170.png

Game of Thrones now works in VR. However, Blood Machine and Leprechaun King still only show the dmd on the desktop. I feel I'm one step away from getting it to work.

Yeah!!

Don´t give up

Nothing is so easy but you will understand

Take a look in Blood machines script if set to VR enviromment.

Blood Machines is a complex table.

You can play with FlexDMD with BackGlass in a cabinet mode or Pupvideo

I have two blood machines table files. One for DMD/BackGlass and other only for Pupvideo both are playale in VR

But I think is better at moment for you DMD with internal VR backglass.

To play out side VR you will need a Backglass file.

bloodmachines_t.png

Some tables need to be set. Others are automaticaly or by tweak menu F12

Some tables there is no VR enviromment. I think leprechaum is one of those tables where VR doesn´t exist so DMD will not work in Fake VR.

VPX tables are not the same configuration for everything.

Some of them have their particular situation.

I made a little progress. I redownloaded the VPinballGL release and copied the files to my install folder. Now, I got the PuP videos to display in VR for both Blood Machines and Leprechaun but still no DMD, which is still out on the desktop. Do you normally even have the DMD and PUP at the same time?

The PUP in Blood Machines only shows up when I run the "Option 2 - DMD_on_BG" batch file OR the "Option 6 - full-PuPDMD_onBG_and_flexDMD" batch file. Option 2 looks better as it fits within the backbox. However, the PUP displays behind the backglass, blocking the view. Is there a way to not display the backglass or move the PUP in VR?

Most of pup tables does not pupvideos in desktop mode. Only for cabinet mode.

It deppends on creator made a BAT file for it.

If you know how to handle pupvideos editor, you can create your own pupvideo editor BAT file.

I don´t know how to create.

Blood Machines has this option but Leprechaum doesn´t.

leprechaum_t.png

But, another option, I think is not correct, It is run "PinUpPlayerConfigDisplays.bat" and change the DMD or BG pup video to screen1.

In the same setup you can adjust the position and size.

I don´t know if it works but you can try if you want.
