File Name: Cerberus (Playmatic 1983)

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 19 Nov 2024

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas
halen
pedator
Manufacturer: Other - Pinball
Year: 1983
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Based on the Cerberus table by Playmatic from 1983.

Thanks to:
- Halen for the redrawing of the graphics
- pedator for the directb2s, DOF and testing

This is a VPX8 table. Built and tested with VPX8 RC5.

There is a vpinmame bug, where the rom sounds will be turned off during the game. When that happens, wait until game over and press F3 to reset the vpinmame emulation, and the sounds will be back.

There is also a Brazilian version of this table, made by J.Esteban, but since the rom is missing then I will not make that table. Physically the only difference are the company logo and the pop bumper cap.

Can this be set for 5 balls instead of 3?  I don't see any DIP switch GUI.

I'm sure it can be done :) There are 2 manuals at the IPDB: Internet Pinball Machine Database: Playmatic 'Cerberus'

One in English and one in Spanish :)

Tips: the "Test" button is the number 7

... let the time pass by ... z z z ... z z z ...

Tips2: Enjoy playing with the 3 balls :D

I don't know if altsound can fix that since it is still vpinmame which must give the sound commands.

I see in the table script there are various DOF calls for the flippers and bumper1.  At this time there doesn't seem to be a DOF configuration for "cerberus".

Do you know what table the DOF calls in this script were based on?  If I know, I might be able to clone the table config for that table so it can work with this one!

The issue with the rom sound going dead is either due to the play2 or core script file. Using those files from 10.7.3 work fine. I edit and rename files to make them work without interfering with the new script files

Edit: just ran several runs without any issue. Restarted pc and now the issue is back

Yes, there is a bug in the emulation of this table. I already wrote it in the download description of the game:

"There is a vpinmame bug, where the rom sounds will be turned off during the game. When that happens, wait until game over and press F3 to reset the vpinmame emulation, and the sounds will be back."

You still need to fix the table muting the rom sounds. They just stop all the time. The only thing that fixes it is exiting vpx and restarting.

That's nothing I can do with it, as that's the vpinmame emulation. I can always drop the rom and script the table manually, like en EM or an original. But the whole point with vpimame is to play with the original rom of the physical table.

So, nothing I can do until the ROM emulation for this table (or the Playmatic system) gets updated in vpinmame.

I have opened a ticket on github about that sound issue.

that seems to be a memory leak issue.
