File Name: Robot Invasion fp to vpx8

File Submitter: unclewilly

File Submitted: 15 Apr 2024

File Category: VPX Originals

Author(s): unclewilly
Polygame
George
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

Conversion of polygame's future pinball table to vpx.
steve gets the credit he wrote the code and designed the table.
unclewilly just rebuilt in vpx and converted the code pretty much line by line.
I believe George H also contributed to the original FP code as well so thank you as well

all options are in the F12 tweak menu:  luts, hologram opacity, ...

I added the dmd basically so i didn't have to create all the alphabet digits for the on table alphanumeric display.  also so there was an already written high score keeping function(THANKS JP).

was also going to include flex dmd as jp does but unfortunately i could not figure out why it would not load even though the table i took the code from worked fine,  oh well, i'll learn flex on the next table.

table based on the latest vpw example table.  used that as a base for adding fleep and nfozzy.  My first attempt at nfozzy.

Please let me know of any issues.

PSA:  I did not code the game logic,  this was steve's code converted line by line so for game rule issues i'll see what i can do.

syntax issues or typos found.  sorry in advance, but i test thoroughly.

minimal vr room as well as a basic b2s which is just the on image of the backglass.

no dof included as i've never done that and i don't want to mess up anyones equipment.

If anyone wants to add dof or make a propper b2s feel free to modify and upload.

IMHO.. its a difficult game,  it's fun, but brutal SDTM rebounds on the top sling

thanks to :

vpw for the example table

JP for the thousands of code snippets i've used over the years

JP for the DMD and High Score.

Mostly Steve P for allowing me to convert his table.

enjoy

Gameplay tip. The green standup next to the center sling raises the popup ballsaver

To get the flexdmd to work convert the target-t1-green.bmp and all the d_**** images to png format and it should work.

(looks like flex isn't quite ready for webp format yet, and the extra bmp file is an old issue with flex where bmp's cause a hang when extracting images for the dmd from the table file)

I didn't even thing to check that. Have an u0date soon then with a dmd for cab users where it should be instead of the apron

UW, I have been working the last few weeks developing a resource pool of "replacement" d_xx images for the community to use. So far i have 6 different fonts with about 15-20 color and style variations of each font. If you need or want to look at them before i get it all packaged up and released, PM me and i can get you some to work with, OR

I have a template already set up to format, convert, re-color, rename, and save as. So if there is a particular font you like as well, i can work on it, and put it in as part of my collection as well. Let me know.

I will be in touch but will be a bit before I get to the dmd of the original
Looks like multiballs not launching so I'll look at that. Will fix so flex dmd is usable.
I thought the multiball code looked off so I'll walk through it and figure out what's going on

Hi Scutters, I converted all those to PNGs and turned on Flex but now it locks up VPX 10.8 rev 1947.

Hey just so you know. I may have removed some of the flex commands when I couldn't get it to work. I'm trying to fix a few things in the game logic to keep the balls piling up in the Plunger lane. I'll add the flex in the next update

Just messed with the flexdmd and I still get an error on initialization index out of range something. And not sure why. So not sure about that

Sorry but I have to ask the obvious: do you have the latest Flex 1.9.1 installed and registered?

That is a really good question. Fairly certain I do but maybe not. The code I'm using is a direct copy of jps Wrath of Olympus code. And the flex works for me on that table.
I'm on 1.9.0
Have to grab the latest.
Just don't understand why Wrath of Olympus works but identical code errors

By the way: is it Robot Invasion (topic title, filename)  or Robots Invasion (backglass)?

The FlexDMD issue is actually related to a bug in VPX 10.8 beta 8 and newer versions. The issue occurs if you save a FlexDMD based table using those versions. The fix is very easy. All you need to do is open the table in 10.7 or 10.8 beta 5 or earlier, then save. Then you can open and play it in beta 8, RC1, RC2, RC3, etc. without any issues. Just make sure to never modify and save using those versions

I will mesmerize you with my semi-circular motion!
