Thank you very much for the response and Links!  The information was very helpful.  It ended up being a wonky USB connection at the board.  All seems good now.

I had a working system with a KL25Z doing only nudge and the plunger.  All of a sudden, after working perfect for weeks,  I lost the plunger/nudge functions.

I go into Windows and run joy.cpl and no controllers are present.

To isolate the issue, I plugged the USB link from the KL25Z into a separate PC running Windows 10, and it also is not seeing the device.

The yellow LED on the KL25Z flashes 4 times, then a short pause, then repeats the four flashes.  No other colors ever light or flash.

Is my KL25Z toast?

thats difficult to say. As mjr ( the programmer of the firmware) has implemented some flashing patterns which the KL-controller shows, its possible to see whats going on.

http://mjrnet.org/pi...id=statusLights

it seems that the KL-controller cannot establish an USB-connection.

the KL-board has two controllers, the main one wich runs the firmware, and a second one which is responsible for communication via USB and has a OpenSDA bootloader.

  • Have you tested with another usb cable?
  • HAve you checked the pins of the game port? perhaps a pin on the pcb is disconnected
  • What happens, when you plug the usb into the programming port?
Do you see then an USBdrive in the explorer? This 2nd controller manages the usb part so that its possible to copy a new firmware as like a file on a usb drive
  • there must be some files:
    • laststat.txt
    • sda_info.htm
  • when you don't see any files could be that the chip or the bootloader is damaged
