I've got a three screen setup, and on some of the old pinball machines I'd like to have something displayed on my DMD screen.  Something like the logo of the machine manufacturer or anything but nothing.

 

How do I add an image to a .directb2s file as a Full DMD?  

 

Just looking for a link on the topic if it's already been discussed.

Define full DMD?

screen size? aperture?
Also keep in mind, most front ends are fully capable of displaying an image or what not on the DMD screen if the table has no DMD present

Ok, it's the screen I use for my DMD, but on the old games with the scoring built into the backglass, there's nothing displayed on my DMD screen.  When I download a backglass file with "FullDMD" it has something displayed on my DMD screen.  Usually it's the score, but it depends on the table.

 

So in summary, I want the Backglass file to have an image that is displayed on my DMD screen along with the actual backglass.

You can import the directb2s file into the B2S Designer and add an image or anything else you want to the backglass. 

Image -> Import images -> Import DMD image

Then Backglass -> Create 'directB2S' backglass file

Ok, I got it, but I did have to go into the screenres file and change it from 2 to 3 screens.  I was pulling my hair out until I tried this.

 

Anyway, thanks.

 

So I've got a disney princess backglass with built in score, and a short video of the disney castle showing on my DMD screen.

 

So, technically, what would I call the backglass file if I were to post it?  Disney Princesses b2s with Full DMD?  

 

Also, is there an easier way to do this through Pinup-Popper?

Disney Princes 3-screen B2S

 

normally you call these kinds 3 screen back glasses.

 

i can not answer how much easier Popper is, i use pinballX

but in pinballX if i want i can put dmd media for a table in the media folder of pinballX
and then in the game database, for that table, check that it has no DMD display

and then when it is running, pinballX will display the DMD media instead.

 

the media could be anything, image, video etc

 

I am sure pinup offers the same stuff, i just do not know how to employ it.

With pinup popper it's extremely easy, I use the feature on quite a few older EM tables.

 

Open the media manager, find your table, then drag and drop the video or image to your, I believe in your case "apron/full dnd"; I just use DMD as my LCD is a 4:1'ish 1280x390 display.  Then in the table manager, on your table, select keep displays on', uncheck default and check full DMD.  Then, save at the bottom.  When you launch the game with popper, it should now keep your media playing on the screen.

What I've done for some of the older EM tables is, if you are running Pinup Player, I've found the logo of the manufacturer or for the table itself and just created a simple PUP Pack for the image to be placed on screen 3, my DMD. 

 

It works fine but I think I'm gonna try the B2S with full DMD method mentioned above.

They only came out a little bit ago, few years maybe?

I use a 3 screen (with DMD) B2S whenever possible and use the Popper display method only if a 3 screen B2S isn't available.

 

When hauntfreaks started posting his B2S files with a 16:9 (full) DMD, I started using those as well.  At first I was using the B2S back-glass designer to to crop the 16:9 image for my 4:1 display, but then figured out a much easier method of virtually cropping the image for my 4:1 display using a .res file for the table.  I'm not a big fan of skewing the aspect ratio down and distorting the image to fit my display.  I also do the same with 4:3 back-glass displays so I don't distort and stretch them to fill my 16:9 back-glass monitor.

Then you are most likely talking about a pinup player display, or flexDMD because VPM and B2S DMD's wont be some big 16:9 image
DMD's didnt resemble that until the Stern Spike2 and similar machines came to be.
