Over the weekend, I was struggling to get PinballX to run properly.  Every time I would want to run a machine, it would say "loading" and then go back to the wheel.  This happened with nearly every machine.

Surprisingly, after cloning my cab hard drive to a larger one, PinballX started working properly again.  The PinballX that is working is using Visual Pinball version 991 to load the games.

When I use PinballX to play newer games and path to Visual Pinball version 10.7.3 or 10.8 - I get errors or PinballX won't load the game.

What I would like to do is install PinballX again and use the version that is currently working and not screw with it and use a newer version to experiment with newer games.

Is this even doable?

Running Windows 7.

Thank you.

I'll find help here...

VPX 10.7 and VPX 10.8 beta - Visual Pinball - VPForums.org

I looked and I didn't readily see the answer to my question (I could have just missed it).

Basically, I would like one version of PinballX to path to Visual Pinball version 9 (my current working version).  Then install the newest version of PinballX and have that path to Visual Pinball 10.7 and/or 10.8 to experiment.

I'll give it another read because, again, I could have missed it in the thread.

Thanks for the link!  Lots of helpful info there.

Basically the idea is the download the 10.7 or 8 to a new folder and rather than double-click the VPX file to start the table, you double-click the EXE (10.7 or 10.8) and then point to the table you want to open.

There's no way to mess with your current installation.

If you don't want the new versons anymore, just delete the corresponding folder.

Yes you can have multiple PinballX installs (just don't set them all to start with windows).

The problem with PinballX not launching a game sounds like a configuration problem or the table file not being found. We'd need more info (pinballx.ini and log.txt files) if you want help with that.

Okay.  Thanks.

I'm currently running an older version of PinballX and that's working with machines I downloaded pre 2020 and working with Visual Pinball 9.9.1.

I will install the newer/most recent version of PinballX and see if I can get it to work with the newer machines and Visual Pinball 10.7.3.

Thanks again!

Alas...

I went into my C: drive and renamed PinballX to "Pinball X Old."  I then installed the newest version of PinballX and it would not launch.  It did nothing.  So, it appears, to me at least, that I can't have two PinballX programs installed on my computer at the same time.

Oh well.  Onward and upward.

Thanks again for your help.

You should be able to. If the new install doesn't launch at all then try installing the 32 bit (uncheck 64 bit in the installer). Might be a .net runtime issue with 64 bit (event viewer could confirm), but just a wild guess..

Okay, I'll try again.  I realized today that I've downloaded hundreds of Visual Pinball 10 files (.vpx) while also having hundreds of Visual Pinball 9 files (.vpt).  Found out that I can't open vpx files in version 9 and when I try to open .vpt files in version 10, I get errors.

So having one PinballX to open machines made in Version 9 and one PinballX to open machines in Version 10 would be ideal.

Also - I've been having some Microsoft .net issues where the backglass doesn't load properly so maybe that has something to do with it, too.

I will check on the "install 32 bit" approach.  This is helpful.  Thanks!

Matt
