I have a lower end mini PC with an IGPU (Ryzen 5 5560U, 1.6 clock Radeon). I've had good luck running most tables at full speed with the exception of a small amount of tables from the VPW team that drop down to the low 50s FPS when heavy lighting and flashers show up on the screen.

On most of the VPW tables, turning off AO and AA brings the FPS back up to a full steady 60 FPS, but some of the more demanding tables like Simpsons Pinball party, Indiana Jones, Iron Man etc. turning off settings improved performance but not all the way up to 60 FPS.

Other than upgrading the GPU card, is there another setting I should be looking for in the table script that will help on those specific tables? I noticed that some tables like bride of pinball have specific settings in the scrip that you can disable to improve performance on lower end PCs.

Thanks,

Try disabling 'Reflect elements on playfield', perhaps that will help.

It did help me to get rid of stutter in scenarios like you described, before upgrading my CPU to a Ryzen 5600 (and a new motherboard along with it). I kept the previous video card (a GTX 1060 3GB), and all tables are running fine now in my 1080p mini cab, with maxed out VPX settings and playfield reflections turned back on.

I run a low end pc.  I can run every table no stutter.  The only table I ever had a problem with was the Tales from the crypt, until they released an update which helped my pc run it correctly.  My go to steps to stop stuttering:

Under User settings:
make sure my fps is set to -1 (some tables are set at 1)
reflection and ball trail set to off
everything else set t default

Visual settings tab:
Turn off reflection

Script options:
Turn off or disable any ball shadows options.  If there isnt an option to turn off, I delete them from the script.

Disable any ambient lighting and shadows.

Doing these steps, I eliminate all my stuttering.  My biggest culprit for stuttering is the ball shadow. For whatever reason, my pc hates ball shadow options.

Sorry about that ;) The routine has gotten much more efficient in its later forms, but even now it's still checking code and ball positions and recalculating object positions every frame. Definitely not for weak CPU's with everything else going on in a table.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I've tried all the options above; unfortunately, my mini PC is not up to the task on certain tables. I'll wait for tables updates and I'm crossing my fingers some of them will incorporate some more performance tweaks within the script.

No worries.  That robot table could be one of the best tables out there today.  If I have to keep disabling shadows to get tables liek that in return I think its a fair trade.

I was having some major FPS drops with the VPW release of tales from the crypt and the suggestion by VPW in the support thread was to try commenting out a couple of script lines relating to flashers which greatly improved things.

This is the post relating to that particular table, might give you some clues as to how to modify other table scripts.

Tales from the crypt works perfectly fine on my setup, but I'll definitely give this a try on the other tables. Thanks for the tip.

Flashers and lag go hand-in-hand.  I try to replace them with other lighting methods wherever possible.

When we are on this topic, maybe you can help me too :)

I have stutter ball stutter on VPW Iron Maiden table. I have ~ 1300 tables in my collection and all of them run supper smooth, this is the only one with ball stutter. This is bad as I really like this table.

I play as desktop user - gaming laptop (16GB RAM, Ryzen 5600h and GTX3060) connected to 144Hz WQHD monitor. Software is up to date - VPX, freezy, PUP Player, B2S server, VPinmame... I have about 80-90 FPS in this game which should be enough but ball stutter is still there.

I tried a lot of stuff and nothing helps:

- Changed resolution from WQHD to 1080p. In this case, I have  ~120FPS but ball movement ist still not smooth

- Unchecked all quality parameters in VPX

- Played around with VSYNC parameters

- Resized PUP from 1080p to 720p

- PUP and DMD on laptop screen and playfield on monitor

- Everything on a same monitor (Desktop PUP option)

- Exclusive Fullscreen of VPX (this is much better but still not good)

Any ideas what I could try more?

Try monitoring your VRAM usage through MSI Afterburner or a similar program.

I recently fixed an annoying stutter issue on the VPW Lord of the Rings table by downsizing some of the largest textures (using GIMP) after I found out that it was reaching my GPU's 4GB VRAM limit.

it is about the "Preload Flashers" ... in some Tables it is, in some unfortunately not
