Hi guys, im building my second cabinet for my brother and like many of you have had issues getting the awesome KL25z.

What I have found is the Xtrinsic Sensors EVK Evaluation Kit for Freescale which is a KL25z with a sensor module attached to it.  One was for sale local to me so I bought it.

It woulnd't be recognised by Win 10, so I used an older laptop with win 7 to update the bootloader (followed pinscape guide) and the device is now recognised by windows 10 but NOT by the pinscape software!

Has anyone got this board to work?

It is advertised as a KL25z board just with this sensor board that can be removed, leaving just the KL25z.  Any ideas anyone?

If it's truly a stock KL25Z, it should work with Pinscape.  Given that you had to update the boot loader to get Windows 10 to see it, it must be from an older batch, but that really shouldn't matter.  I'm assuming that it at least looks cosmetically identical to the regular KL25Z boards - it's probably the right board if so.

One thing you might try is manually installing the Pinscape firmware, which you can do by dragging the .bin file onto the KL25Z virtual disk drive that appears in the Windows desktop file explorer.

This doesn’t really help you solve the problem, but I also scavenged my KL25Z from an Xtrinsic Sensor kit. It was also on an old bootloader that needed to be updated (luckily, I had a piece of lab equipment running windows 7 that I could temporarily repurpose for the task). This was almost a year ago, but after getting the bootloader updated I don’t recall anything else special that needed to be done. It has been running in my cabinet without issue ever since.

Sorry I can’t help more, but wanted to at least pass along a success story with the same kit because there is a good chance the hardware is just fine.

These are very old stock sensor kits. I have used literally hundreds of these and except for 1 or 2 DOA all worked pretty well.

Dumb question, but did you also install the Pinscape firmware after installing the new bootloader?

Thanks AnotherEngineer.  Its a weird one because with or without the new boot loader the joystick port doesn't do anything in win 7 or 10 and once ive put the boot loader files on the KL25z, which copy over fine and I can get the device in to boot loader mode its still not recognised in that port by the pinscape software !   any ideas?

Thanks for the reply Suikazz. I think that is the bit im essentially stuck on !  I have updated the boot loader as per the pinscape guide using a win 7 machine but i cannot get the device to be recognised in the pinscape software. No device is detected at all by pinscape.   Are there other files I need to copy on to the KL25z to get it to be 'seen' by pinscape software?   My understanding was that IF i have successfully installed the new boot loader then it should be recognised in the pinscape software !

use the opensda port to flash the pinscape firmware.

if the kl25z is not recognized on that port you need to flash the new bootloader again (with the win 7 machine) as something might have gone wrong previously.

later use the kl25z usb port to configure
