I've been trying to get Metallica Premium Monsters (Stern 2013) VPW 1.0.6 to work for days and for life of me I can not figure out what's wrong.

 

No matter what I do I get the dreaded "Machine mtl_170h terminated before initialized" error. But here's the thing, VPinMAME's test function verifies that I have the correct mtl_170h rom. I can even run it by itself. But the table steadfastly refuses to run it. I checked the script and yes, it does indeed have the game name as mtl_170h

 

This isn't the first time I've run into this problem with Stern tables. In fact, I have two different Family Guy tables. One works, the other doesn't, even though they both ask for the same rom: fg_1200af. What in the heck is going on here?

 

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Oh my God, I finally found out what the problem was. It had nothing to do with the ROM. I had to turn off "Force exclusive fullscreen". Don't know why that would cause problems, but I found mention of it in another thread. Apparently a lot of tables have problems with this setting.

I think I've got the NON-color version working... Can send me a PM...

Disable direct Draw

It sounds like you have direct draw enabled for vpinmame

 

Regedit

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Freeware\Visual PinMame\default

ddraw should be 0

 

also check entry for the rom name as well

ddraw should be 0

 

if ddraw is 1, it wont work in fullscreen mode

Thanks. There was no default value for ddraw, so I added one. Seems to work right now. You're right, I was able to turn "force exclusive fullscreen" back on without it crashing the game.

 

Now I just need to figure out how to hit the right ramp Seems to be nearly impossible.

  I'M Having the same issue. I don't have directdraw checked and I went in an un checked the forced option you mentioned and still it loads and then crashes. Used to work great. I have deleted the file and re-loaded and still the same issue. i
