I have an Iron Maiden table that's only 4 years old or so. The mechanism that puts the ball into the launch lane isn't working properly, it is intermittent.   Any advice?

Just a guess but most newer pins use OPTO sensors/switch to sense if a ball is present on different places of the play-field including the "ball trough" where the balls drain to off the playfield, my guess would be the optos in that may area have dirt fouling their reading of the balls being present in the trough or they are loose/misaligned, or have a bad electrical connection, or are failing since they do fail often. I'd take a look there checking for all the things I mentioned above, one other thing is the OPTOs are connected to a board that could also have issues like loose wiring connections..... You'll want to get your manual out and take a look at the ball trough area of the wiring to see where that board is located.

Hope that helps.
