Pinball companies seemed to make a practice of producing machines that could ride the coattails of mainstream films without actually paying a license. The Ralph Bakshi LORD OF THE RINGS came out in 1978, and Atari just glommed the words MIDDLE and EARTH (no hyphen) and made sure the table visuals had nothing to do with the intellectual property they were referencing. BLACK HOLE, TIME TUNNEL, and MAD WORLD were other notable examples.

My dream table would be an original based on IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD, my second favorite film of all time. It's many characters and episodic story seems ideal for several modes, but I'm sure the movie is too old to draw the attention of today's programmers and designers.
