Great news.  I'll try the DOFLinx version of MAME soon.

Great news.  I'll try the DOFLinx version of MAME soon.

What exactly is the DOFlinx version of MAME?

my cabs have MAME 0.35 (yes, that old)

It flashes the player start buttons, though most of the games dont make any use of it, and i forget what other 2 buttons flash cause almost nothing flashes them

the lights are driven off of the keyboard controller

and i have one cab that has a single solenoid in it, it is run off the parallel port, but off hand i can only think of one game that uses it, though i think i actually have 3

it thumps when you get shot, i think one of the other games was a target shooting game, but as i dont have any kind of gun set up, the effect was rather dumb and so i disabled it.

Do modern MAME releases no longer do any of the above on it's own?

those are just running ms dos, arcadeOS and mame

No issue at all.

Mmmm

Vector game

What exactly is the DOFlinx version of MAME?

To allow more toys to be run from MAME games I have made a modded version of MAME.  It allows us to;

- Use the standard player button flashing via DOF

- Added pause outputs to flash or fade your pause button

- Added cheat outputs to flash or fade your cheat button

- Get constant scores from the running game to drive any of the normal toys, ie solenoids, flashers, addressable LEDs

- Outputs can be triggered by incremental and / or milestone scores

When you combine this with some illuminated buttons (ideally RGB buttons), plus some toys and a Teensy with some LEDs, then you have an awesome MAME cabinet

Toys and scores are assigned in .MAME files that ship with DOFLinx.  A lot of games have been mapped, but not all.  There are instructions on how to map other games, but most of the time I just get a request to map someone's favourite.

Hope that helps to cover it.

Heh the score thing is interesting kinda.
Could have it ring a bell when you set the high score.

I suppose someone could actually use that to make one of those fruit games everyone but me loves to actually do a payout.

Would not do much good on my cabs though, MAME wise they run in DOS 6.22

And they actually still take arcade boards, it's just that i only have a few working boards and only 1 remaining functional CRT, which sadly is not the vector CRT

bgfx

bgfx_backend              opengl

bgfx_screen_chains        crt-geom-deluxe,crt-geom-deluxe,crt-geom-deluxe
bgfx_shadow_mask          slot-mask.png

bgfx might be getting some changes later on. For now I liking this.

No Vulkan?

Now you just need to make some bezel art, and run it in full screen mode

and you'll be looking just like a cab

Well I fixed the crt-geom-deluxe.json. Galaga showing nasty star lines. Not only that. Glowing on the stars look like a brick instead of square shape.

Unzip it and then move it into the bgfx\chains folder. Save the old one first.

I know the ghost effect is gone but this is better than before. All I did is change some settings. Left looked bad. Right looking nice now.
