File Name: Banzai Run (Williams 1988)_Bigus(MOD)

File Submitter: bigus1

File Submitted: 11 Jul 2021

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME - MOD Tables

Author(s): Bigus1, arconovum
Manufacturer: Williams
Year: 1988
Permission to MOD?: Unspecified

This fun table from arconovum is at my local arcade and is a family favorite.
I've given it a makeover and improved the gameplay a lot.
Select 'Test Cabinet' from Camera settings for cab play.
It's still in FSS format, but I've sacrificed some apron and backbox to maximize the playable area.
2.0 is rebuilt for 10.8 with major layout and physics changes and problems fixed.
Enjoy :)

When you import or export a POV file, it opens the table folder window

Is there the possibility of playing the second Playfield on the Backglass... when used in a cabinet?

Unfortunately not, because VP cannot handle a second screen.

wiesshund mentioned some unique settings that allows this table to run like you want but then no other table will work properly.

I'm trying to find the best configuration for this table, leaving only the main and secondary table in the playfield... leaving the backglass hidden...

for the backglass screen I downloaded the B2S file that we have here on the forum...

but it's very difficult to find a position that is nice, I'm changing Inclination, Field Of View, Layback, X/Y Scale and X/Y OffSet, but it's very difficult to have a good result...

I would like the main playfield to be on a larger scale and the secondary one more "upright"...... but I'm afraid to change the gameplay of the table.

Yea, basically it entails having 2 screens, same resolution, set up as a single virtual super resolution

and then adjusting the POV so that the backglass playfield winds up on the 2nd screen.

And then of course, no other table is going to work right unless you reset up your entire cab to run in a completely different fashion
run windows vertical and disable exclusive full screen mode in VPX.
And then, your front ends may not be exactly configurable to run properly like this.

VP9 had a spanned screen mode that i kind of wish VPX had

Ah the ole spanned screen.  For the longest time that was the only way to play hollywood heat.  Thank god that table was recreated.  I only have one spanned screen table left on my cab.  It's a pool table game, and I'm blanking on the name.  But yes, a spanned screen on vpx would be great for this table, or a recreation of the vp9 where the backbox drops down on top of the PF

If VPX had spanned screens, there are a number of backglasses that i would probably do in table rather than B2S
just because it would be easier, and wind up looking more correct.

Let alone that then, several other tables that have backglass activity apart from snippet animation would become possible to recreate properly. Like Catacomb, NBA Fastbreak (having flipper and ball), to name a few.

I guess it must be pretty difficult to make VPX handle multiple screens, otherwise it'd already be done.

As for Banzai Run, you can have a separate cabinet set up to only run this single table :P - kind of like a real machine.

EMs with real spinning reels

Terminators gun mini game

Not to mention, some of the mirrored backglasses showing up in real 3D, like space invaders

hey bigus, fantastic job mate. Looks and sounds great in desktop mode.

But In VR: everything renders fine in the left eye, but the flippers, plunger, and the red flashers are missing from the right eye.

And the table sounds (flippers, bumpers, etc) don't play.

I've tried 10.6 and 10.7

Any idea why this would be?

You can't run this on cabinet, right?  Confused by what the FS POV is for.

I think you can in FSS mode? but not in standard FS cab mode
you will miss out on the backglass

About the spanned screens: If I remember right it was Microsoft who removed that kind of spanned screens in Windows Vista, and that was the end of the spanned tables. So it is not that VPX does not support spanned screens, it is Windows Vista, 7 and 10 who don't have anymore spanned screens.

What??

Round up the villagers, break out the torches, pitchforks and black and white film

We storm the castle at midnight

On a more serious note, i wonder what MS removed/changed and how VPX went about leveraging it, since we know that other multiscreen

applications do work in vista, 7 and 10, even some quite old versions of MS Flightsim and some racing simulations of the pre vista era.

I wonder if it is something that could be changed to use the screens in what ever manner works now
Though i do not know that there would be enough use of it for the devs to justify tinkering with it over other things

I think that's the point... how many tables do we have with an extended screen that would be worth the effort and work to get this to work properly?

is it worth the effort???

Does FSS let you rotate it 270?  I thought I tried that with the original version, but I couldn't get it oriented properly.

To use the table in cab, open it in the editor, go File/Import/POV and select the FS POV from wherever you're keeping it. Hit Play to make sure then Quit and Save. If you want to go back to desktop anytime, choose the DT POV to Import.
