High score Post-It on Apron entering initials

High score Post it yellow note initials

Best Answer o2jmpr , 09 July 2021 - 04:57 AM

Strange that both your keyboard and a joystick based encoder have the same issue. Are you using any additional joy2key or similar software

Ur a genius.  That was it.  Problem gone after disabling joy2key.

Unbeknownst to you gtxjoe, that's about the 12th time you've saved my butt as I've scoured these forums looking for answers.

I REALLY appreciate you, and the others jumping in here to help a newb.

Thank you!

I'd appreciate some help with figuring out how to enter my initals for high score on EM tables with the yellow Post-It note on the apron.

It skips every other letter/number when cycling through.  My initals are DAC and I've figured out that if I scroll all the way through the cycle and keep going, then I can get the "D" entered but I can never go back to the other set of letters/numbers no matter how many times I try to cycle what key presses I've tried.

Frustrated.   :wimper:

Thanks!

Have you tried entering initials on any other non-rom tables? I'm thinking it could be an input speed thing where your button is sending more than a single press and the VPX post-it code is able to take them both, instead of stopping at each letter like the roms.

It’s the same across all non ROM tables. I like your thought, but am hesitant to think that’s it due to the fact I don’t get double hits on the flippers and I’ve also tried using cabinet buttons and keyboard with the same effect. Like I say, every other character is missing but… if I go through all of them and cycle through, then the missing character set can be entered but I’m not allowed to go back. Hard to explain.

Initial input. A C E G I K…. Cycle through all then it goes B D F H J L….. I can’t get back to the ACEGIK characters

Strange.  What keyboard keys or joystick inputs are used for your Flippers?

Left/right shift on keyboard and mapped to buttons # 1/2 via a zero delay generic encoder using regular switches not leaf switches.

Yup!

I do use joytokey for a couple FX3 tables I loaded into popper. They are also assigned L/R shift to encoder buttons 1/2.

If you disable joy2key, does the behavior change with arcade buttons and or keyboard?

I had the same problem then I realized I had two pieces of software recognizing my controller inputs, which meant each press was doubled. I had first started controller mapping directly in VPX, assigning buttons, then switched to joy2key, but forgot to remove all my stuff from VPX. Once I did, that solved it for me.

Unpopular opinion, I don't like the post-its and make them invisible on every EM table that uses them, if somwone likes a high score, take a picture. Not to mention the apron just looks better without them.

I do the same for reels when people add scoring reels to ballyhoo tables. Take out the pen and paper and keep score that way, makes it much more accurate to how people did it in the 30s.

I guess you don't use either any digital calendars, spreadsheets  or a simple text to make lists, reminders or similar ;) Anyway, it is good that everyone likes different things :)

That's part of the fun of VPX, you can make simple edits to suit any personal tastes. I also like to turn the lights down when needed to add warmth to the tables and make lighting pop more. Pinball is always funner in darker rooms, seeing the lights bounce off the ball.

Your tables JP with the LUT controls make that job so much easier :)

If a table has no place to enter a high score…I don’t play it

Yes, lots of customizing is possible.

When I first saw the Post-It on Aladdin's Castle VPX-table (a few months ago) , I thought it was clever use of the 3rd-screen.
