File Name: CARtoons RC (Nailed 2021)

File Submitted: 09 Apr 2021

File Category: VPX Originals

Permission to MOD?: No

This is a modification of CARtoons RC (2017) v2.3, by HauntFreaks, BorgDog, and SliderPoint - with contributions from Dark, Randr, Toxie, and Fuzzel

"My boss found this old pinball machine in his barn and stuck it in our break room, bugs and all!  I thought it was old and unfair, so I hammered some nails in...hopefully I didn't break anything...
um, if the lights go out...just give it a slap." RADDOG

Hold left flipper before starting game for Operator's Menu
See script for more toggle-able options
**Arachnophobe Warning** turn off spider in script, I don't want to freak anyone out (too much)

Thank you to Toxie and Fuzzel for VPX in general, and for their excellent documentation and posts clarifying all of its features.
Special thanks to JPSalas for the physics, shadows, and sounds in his excellent Arcade Physics v3 2nd edition, and for advising me to lower the max velocity of the ball - which led to fine-tuning the physics of the whole table, then tweaking the flippers to be more worn out like the original.

I've been a fan of digital pinball games for long time, but somehow only just discovered Visual Pinball. Learning so I could make my own tables became...a bit of an obsession.  I chose to mod this table because it's so unique, but simple enough that I could follow the code (I am not a programmer, and I apologize in advance to those of you who are).

I discovered visual pinball just 2 weeks ago, but I've put about 42 hours of work into this (and a lot more time mentally). (as of 1.0, a lot more now!)
I hope my love of the medium and this table shine through, and that you enjoy playing it!

>>>>>>ORIGINAL TABLE<<<<

>>>>>>B2S LINK<<<<
(Change the b2s filename to match the table name)
Major changes in Nailed: RtxBS ON, Physics, Nails, Multiball, Outlane Save Roach, Shadows, Lights, Sounds, Breakable Elements
My goal was to give it a couple more features, while staying true to its 'aged' aesthetic. I'd like to think I pulled it off!

I really like the look of it and it plays great. The bugs really creep me out though. Thanks for the great table.

For me it looks 90° rotated.
For some reason I can't change the POV in 10.7
When I click on properties, nothing happens.

EDIT : never mind, finally got the properties working and was able to set to 270°

Sorry about that! My setup is a physically rotated screen for FS so I have to set it to 0. I just forgot to change it back :-| I'll remember in the next update, I promise!

Score reels are on the backglass; make sure you've got b2s set up, put the b2s file in your tables folder and rename to match the vpx file - CARtoons RC (Nailed 2021) v1.1

Its ok got it sorted in desktop mode needed to disable the B2S, had it working in the cab as that has a separate screen for b2s.

Thank you for this unique table.

In version 1.2 is a script error in 833 if expected

Uncomment line 827 to fix, sorry.  Thanks for letting me know, I commented out an extra "end if" when I was turning off my multiball debug just before packaging.  New file uploaded - hopefully didn't affect too many people.

This really does look and play amazing, huge thanks to all involved. The ball itself is quite incredibly rendered and Im noticing that little subtle effects such as when the ball rolls past the pegs just above the flippers I can see the ball reflected in those pegs as it passes. Ive never noticed that effect in other tables and I expected this was a result of your rtxBS code, but then I noticed it did the same thing on the original unmodded version. Would like to know more about that effect.

From what I can tell, it's because the pegs are using the playfield material and are not statically rendered.  Could play around with the settings to confirm it, when I have time again :D... :wimper:

I tried disabling the texture on the peg and the reflection off of the ball onto the peg is still visible so I am assuming it is something to do with the ball itself and the highlights on the ball. Perhaps this is happening on other tables as well but I've never noticed it to this degree and it certainly adds an extra level of realism and looks fantastic. Screen space reflections need to be enabled to see the effect. Still keen to find out exactly what is happening here.

@wylte

very fine update of older 2.3.

only thing: i had to change the "new" cgamename cartoonsnailed to cartoons_nailed, so the given DOF settings are working.

Great table. I love it. But I cannot move the score on another screen. It is stuck on the playfield.

Is it possible to move it?

Thanks.
