Hi ive got a desktop PC and would like to Run VPX like this [ see attached image ] what settings would i need to do in order to get this look.

Any help greatly appreciated.

what is your monitor resolution?

Look for a resolution marked portrait (should see them in the 1.6.2 update)

that will be your screen height, and very narrow

The reset is done by setting your backglass to screen 1 (In the b2s settings app)
a small size, like mine is 564x360  (on a 1366x768 screen)

and then set the DMD to be a dimension close to that but that is based off of 128X32

You can use paint to find that out
make a new image 128x32, then resize, in my example, to 540 and leave maintain aspect ratio checked, and it will tell you what you want for the other number

you set the X offset to backglass width minus DMD width divided by 2

and you set the Y offset to backglass height plus 1 pixel

and if you need something a bit more custom for the playfield display, i can show you how to do it manually
but i need to know your screen size

and if you do not have 10.6.2 and do not want to get 10.6.2
then just tell me your screen size and if you want a cab view, or the wider desktop view for the table

THis is my latop 1 screen setup

and its a little screen at that

Hi, how you have yours set looks exactly how i want mine to look , i cant get 10.6.2 as VPinball is down and cant find it here, unless im looking in the wrong place, my screen res is 1920x1080 here are all my settings

1920
1080
564
360
1
500
361
128
32
0
0
0

I tried those and i still get the table filling the screen so no b2s or dmd although i can get the DMD by doing the Fn F1 and selecting dmd there.

This is what i get

ok

1) This is your screenres.txt, copy this and paste it over what you got

1920
1080
816
555
1
0
0
800
143
8
556
0

Now, i am going to assume you know how to put something in notepad
and click save as, and then pick ALL FILES from the files type selector?
and you will name it something like vpx 1single screen.reg

And save it some place you can find it, cause you are going to doubleclick it after

Now if you go changing any video settings it will undo this part
so once you adjust what ever you decide to adjust

double click the reg file again to put the screen sizing back

this will give you a window to play the desktop layout in as 1024 pixels is just a bit short for cab viewing
Oh it works, dont get me wrong, but things happen too quickly, i think you wont be super fond of it, you kind of need like a 32" or so screen with a 2K or 4K rez
because the table runs the same speed regardless of resolution, so the shorter the table is, the faster the ball seems to come for the drain.

Anyways, this is your .reg file

copy, paste into notepad, do like a said above, click saves, change file type to ALL FILES
and save as some meaningful name.reg, and keep it incase you want to test other things but want to go back

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Visual Pinball\VP10\Player]
"FullScreen"=dword:00000000
"Width"=dword:0000044e
"Height"=dword:00000438
"Render10Bit"=dword:00000000
"WindowPosX"=dword:00000332
"WindowPosY"=dword:00000000

Now, as for the DMD's

for real DMD's just hit F1 and uncheck to show the VPM display
check to use external DLL, click OK then restart the table
now you will get a nice DMD window you can move and size as needed

And backglasses with their own DMD display built in
those will auto display under the backglass, nice and centered and of the proper dimensions

Oh last note to you

You may find, that on some tables, you have desktop mode stuff in the table screen that you do not want

this you have to change in the table yourself
what i usually do is open the table for editing

click on the backglass button
I will set the backdrop image to NONE  (i run desktop icons hidden, solid black desktop, in windows)

then, if the table has some LED displays etc on the "in table" backglass, i will just drag a selector box around them all, and arrow key them up outside of the
borders of the backglass area
If any are locked, press ctrl shift L before moving
You may have to cycle that twice to get all the pieces in sync

If the table uses a flasher based DMD
(you will see a flasher in the table edit view sitting beside the table, and it will be set as Use Script DMD)

i dont move it, i just uncheck its visible flag.
Too hard to realign those if you want to put them back later

Also, you may have to adjust the tables POV a bit, to your liking
but that is normal

What i showed you to do has nothing to do with the error you are getting

You do not have b2s server registered

there is an app to register it inside the tables folder

B2SBackglassServerRegisterApp.exe

run it and try to register the server

and also, your screen shot shows me that you either did not import the registry, edited the video settings again after the fact in which case you have to reimport the registry again, or you are turning exclusive full screen back on, which you cant do and you have to import the registry again.

Hello i did register the b2s is said all registered with no errors, I also imported the file we created into the registry and it said file successfully imported, and I do not have exclusive mode on. I know the B2s is working because if I connect another screen and tell VPX to use that it works.

I know the B2s is working because if I connect another screen and tell VPX to use that it works.

If you imported that, and you are running VPX, something is not right, because you showed me a full screen screen shot of the table

and B2S server appears to not be working right

What version of vpx do you have installed?

try changing line 2 and 3 of the script to this

but not sure it will help

ExecuteGlobal GetTextFile("core.vbs")
ExecuteGlobal GetTextFile("b2s.vbs")

that is an old EM you are running showing the b2s error

but as for the batman screen shot, something is wrong if that is what your screen looks like even with changing resolution

go into vpx video prefs and set vpx to run at 640x480 and tell me if it still takes up the entire screen?

Yep, there ya go

You may want to take a bit more of a desktop POV,put in some inclination
gives the feeling of having more table length that the monitor height

but that is totally up to you

Me. with the shorter vertical, the table beats the hell out of me, i need more time to find the ball LOL

Hi again, would i be right in saying that if i want to move the playfield slightly to the left i need to do it in the registry and not the screenres file as ive tried that but it doesnt seem to alter the position of the playfield on screen?

Correct, screenres.txt is only a config file for b2sServer

And when the window height is = to monitor height, as you notice, hitting Q does not give a header to grab and move, so yes, in the registry

In the reg file i gave you, see the WindowPosX value?

Ok open regedit, and go to the path from the regedit file

you can literally paste in

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Visual Pinball\VP10\Player

in its address bar

Now WindoPosX is at the very bottom of all those settings

double click it.

click decimal, unless you enjoy typing in Hexidecimal

the number is how many pixels across the screen the left size of the window will be

so you want to lower the value
Dont worry about setting it back to hex, its a dword, thats the only way it will save.

Leave regdit open, lower the number say 10 pixels

now launch a table

need more? quit to editor, adjust in regedit again

relaunch table

Now remember, in desktop POV the bottom of the table is wider than the top
but the window is the same width all the way up,  so look at your bottom when deciding if its going to go over the backglass or not

you can have screenres.txt open as well

and adjust it between launches as well

just make sure to save between adjustments cause notepad doesnt auto save like the registry

If you mess up and need to start over, you still have all the values in this post you can return to

Also...

If you choose to remain with a totally vertical cab type POV rather than a Desktop POV (I would try a desktop POV a bit before deciding)

then go with a WIDTH of about 607 as opposed to 1102, which will let you bring the window even more to the left.
But keep in mind, that window will be too narrow for much inclination at all

That's absolutely brilliant thanks so much for this, i have tried and it works like a charm :-) ive moved my playfield to right and put the backglass across a little and the DMD under it , looks pretty good , just 1 last question i still get the editor open when i run the table and the take bar, is there a way to get rid / hide of these when the table runs, ive set the screen to black. ?
