Hi All

Just like many others I have been playing around with VPX and Future Pinball and for the most part figured this out following guides from Major Frenchy and Terry Red.

I want to transition all this to a cabinet build.

I have a Games Room Solutions setup 27 inch Playfield.

My question is guys how is the best way to mount the Motherboard to a wood base.

Does anyone have a link to some kind of standoff mounts that can be applied to wood or other viable solutions?

Any answers appreciated.

Chris

I mounted mine on a platform made of 2 pieces of 5.5 inch wide laminate wood flooring because it has the tongue and groove connection. On the front I have the power and reset buttons. I mount the motherboard backwards so all of the connections to the motherboard are accessible just inside of the coin door (keeping the over all width of the platform just less that the width of the coin door opening. Definitely go for it with a cabinet build. It is totally worth it if you have some basic wiring skills and some woodworking skills. I have a spare computer mounted the same way so if the computer goes down, swapping in through the coin door is easy.

Well the DVD player is 5.1 surround sound combo unit that had been in retirement in my basement, it sounds pretty good and dvd player is built in so the DVD is just along for the ride. The PinCab doubles as a video jukebox so is why I leave the OS in Portrait mode.

I was teasing, i figured you were using it for the surround receiver.
Works pretty damned good though doesn't it?

If you ever run across someone abandoning a 7.1 unit grab it
Even though it will require some reworking to get all 8 channels represented in the cab, it sounds really great.

It looks a bit dumb, when you do not have a cab, and people want to know why the hell you have 6 46" column speakers sitting around your PC
looking like a stereo ad from 1980, but the volume knob makes dumb questions fade away.

Their lips move, but i cant hear what they're saying

When ever i make an actual cab, be it mini or full sized, its getting 8 audio channels.
I will find a way to fit them

You should just go for it and make your own cabinet, In my case, I took a single 4X8 sheet of cabinet grade plywood then cut it into 4 quarters of 2'x4' (Left, Right, Bottom, then the front/back was cut both from the remaining 2x4 sheet, everything had to work as subdivisions from the single 4'x8' sheet of plywood. Though if you are using a mobile phone and a laptop screen, I think you can get away with much less material than what I used ;).

No budget for it right now

I'd need another PC, as im not terribly keen on giving up my desktop and then the playfield backglass and DMD screens
and a small pile of audio hardware.

Plus a few pieces of mandatory pinball hardware, like legs.
I could fab legs, but still need decent material for those.
Dont want flimsy legs.

Cab i could ultimately just make from MDF, cause it isnt like it will ever be getting moved, so it does not have to survive that kind of thing, which MDF does not do well

and no one would be banging on it but me.

Not to mention, it would not get used a lot, so it would take forever to beat it apart
The whole reason for the laptop and silly mobile screens, is cause i am working way more than i am near anything like a cab or even my desktop.
The laptop can hang out with me, the other stuff, not so much
