The DMD Crash Issue with Star Trek LE and Pirates OTC

Best Answer vbousquet , 29 December 2020 - 03:05 PM

This is a known bug, the fix is pending. To avoid it, you need to enable 'Colorize' in VPinMame options. To do so, run 'setup.exe' from your VPinMame.exe, then click on 'Test', then select the game (POTC for example), then click 'Game Options', then ensure, that 'Colorize DMD' is checked (and choose colors to your liking). If you don't like the resulting colors, you need to activate colorization on Freezy's DMD side as well, by having 'colorize = true' in dmddevice.ini, and having a folder corresponding to your rom in the 'altcolor' folder of your VPinMame install, with a color scheme inside (a file name 'pin2dmd.pal'). That's it !

Hi guys,

I am experiencing the same type of crash on both POTC and Star Trek LE. The DMDExt (I use freezy, so I forgot what the proper name for it is) log shows an error with the DMD. When I look the issue up, most people say it's something with the coloring of the DMD or something.

Most people simply solve it by mentioning, in general terms, using the color version of the ROM. Is this just a matter of googling "setup color rom on vpx" ?

When I do so, its several steps, so Im just making sure this is what they mean.

Thanks a ton!

no idea, what kind of crash is it?

what ROM are you using for these tables?

What version of freezy's dmd device extensions are you using?

What version of VPinMAME are you using?

Thanks for your reply.

1. Crashes upon certain events, I think upon extra ball earned -- and i think its the same event in both tables, if i recall. its not random.

2. the star trek rom is st_161h and the POTC rom is potc_600as -- neither is the color version, I assume

3. freezy 1.8

4. vpinmame version 3.3

Sorry, I didn't think about that. The Issue was an index out of range exception in ColorUtil.ColorizeFrame that was causing vpx to crash with one specific rom when a replay occured. Solution was to configure for colorized dmd for this rom as apparently it is needed.

what does he mean to configure for colorized rom?

well, he does not say patch the rom, so i only have 2 guesses

1) make sure color is enabled in dmddevice.ini
2) check color in F1 rom settings

?

Weird i never ran into those issues

It must mean i suck badly enough on those tables to never reach the event that crashes it LOL
