To improve FP performance, There is a couple of things you can do.
Anybody feel free to fill the blank!

1. If you are only PLAYING FP. Go into the editor under PREFERENCES>>EDITOR OPTION
and uncheck LOAD IMAGE INTO TABLE EDITOR. you will see all the magic this does!
it is mostly what cause problem when you launch a table.

2.I you create a table, use the "POWER OF 2" meaning an image can be 64,128,256,512,1024 or 2048 pixels
Any combination is good. [E.G.] Bumper, targets, flipper Texture, are usualy 256x256 while we usualy resize our final playfield to 1024x2048

3. Unsure about your system? FP is reported to be buggy with VISTA and WINDOWS 7. Best OS : WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2-3

Things you can do In the VIDEO OPTION
4. Start with the minimal mode > Click the preset button 'minimum'
5. Turn off Render gameroom, it is a big RAM eater.
6. Completely Uncheck "Flare on Flashers" and "Flare on Playfield Light", Keep Hardware light to use at a minimum(default 2 is good).
7. Disable camera scrolling by unchecking "Camera follow the Ball"
8. Start antialiasing to "none" then go UP from there it is trial and error but at least

you can also try disabling " HIGH QUALITY TEXTURE" this help on very crappy machine tongue.gif
If you see that your system is holding on, try reinstoring the feature you unchecked one by one. it is trial and error, but I'm sure some of you will have their problem fixed.

Also, FP was built with NVIDIA in mind so it is normal these Video card are suggested. if you plan building a cab PLan ahead...

*it has also been reported that Kaspersky AntiVirus was a source of problem.

Thanks Steve! These suggestions helped reduce the stuttering in FP on my nVidia 9500GT / 1Gb DDR2 video card. FP plays much smoother now and you saved me 150.00 dollars CDN I was going to spend on a 1Gb nVidia 240 or 250.

thanks very much happy.gif I really like FP, but my PC is a Wal-Mart special lol - I'd already figured out 4-8, but 1 is a neat hint. I'll give it a try. It does run quite well on my PC with the gameroom off and slightly higher than minimum settings as it is.

Note that only the IMAGE of the playfield needs to be 1024x2048 [I usually go 4x that, i.e. 2048x4096, for clarity]. The playfield itself should be appropriately sized for the table (usually 514x1041 for old-school EM, for example -- there's a chart somewhere, and if there isn't, I'll be glad to repost it).

Yes: create and new model and import it in FP

First: export from FP the flipper model you want to customize.
Second: with FPMEditor (avalaible here: http://www.pinsimdb....es/fpm_editor/), extract the .ms3d in order to work on it
Third: update the .ms3d with MilkShape and save with an other name
Fourth: create a new model with these .ms3d using again FPMEditor
Fifth: import the model in FP

Here's a tip for a big boost for fps. Although I had installed a Geforce 210 card, I was still only getting an average of 40-45 fps with both screens plugged into my GeForce. When I unplugged my backboard monitor from my GeForce and plugged it into the onboard vga ( and left my playfield screen plugged into my GeForce), I went from 40 fps to 70 fps. This is the most singular way in which to improve FPS. Of course, you can fiddle with settings within Future Pinball and the graphics settings, you still will not see such a drastic jump in fps performance as using your installed video card in combination with another installed video card or your onboard. Trust me - it works!!

For some reason FPinball works waaaaay better using a VGA for the playfield instead of an HDMI or DVI cable... not sure why and maybe its just my system but the performance is drastic. Just what I have experienced.

This here was suggested in the steam forums for "Pinball fx2" but I tried it for FP and it seems to help there as well:

If you are using nvidia hardware set the frame pre-render limit to 1 in the control panel - with that limit set FP seems to play better even without v-sync enabled which never worked well for me before.

Personally I have set adaptive v-sync for all applications in the nvidia control panel to override any applications settings and together with the pre-render limit it works like a charm.

Yes it is possible sometimes on Windows 7, if you turn on vsync or mark single processor it should be solved. If nor deinstall FP, delete all registry setting and reinstall it. Also that could solve your problem. Without knownig about your PC system and your video settings it is near impossible to give you a good advice. But things in first line solved my first troubles with FP.exe. If you have the possibility, use start your table trough Bam. Bam has a much better ram management with windows.  Most problems start in FP by using modificated.exe. stutter, tables crashes, black score.....

I'm getting terrible stutter on the ball and very low fps considering my system specs, how are you guys getting fps in the hundreds?

My specs are as follows:

Intel i3 2100 Sandybridge

8GB DDR3

Nvidia Geforce GTX 650Ti

Disable vsync, load your FP through BAM (Fploader). Also you arle able to change xml (physic file) support 32 or 64 bit. You should reach minimal 50 - 90 FPS, sometimes 120.

In Bam menu: activate booster
