File Name: JP's Seawitch (Stern 1980)

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 25 Oct 2020

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas
Manufacturer: Stern
Year: 1980
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

Based on the table by Stern from 1980 and the layout of the Stern's The Beatles from 2018.

Graphics taken from the FP table by Martin Brunker and edited by me for VPX.

I made this table just for fun :) It is basically Seawitch with the new layout of the Stern Beatles.
This gives a whole new feeling and flow to Seawitch. You can make loops from both right flippers, upper and lower, because in Seawitch you couldn't hit a loop from the lower right flipper.
All the posts and rubbers are differently situated.

And the table is free to mod if you want to make a more close "The Beatles" with the right layout :)

Have fun
JP

Great work on this one. For some reason the sound is not playing. Trying to get that fixed.

I could have been smart, but I never learned anything by being smart!

Says rom is corrupt. It still works but can't get the the display to read properly.

You should use the ROM from the link, the one from this site. That's the one I used. If you have problems with it, then delete the nvram file to reset the rom to its default.

Trouble with the sound? Then I guess you do not have the samples that some Bally tables need, download them from here: https://www.vpforums...ads&showfile=33 and copy them to the samples folder

Also you need to check "Use samples" in the vpm settings, like this:

Also someone asked me what are the differences in the layout from the original Stern table from 1980 and the new Stern The Beatles that I used in my "JP's" version. I guess there are a lot of explanations on the web about the differences, but here are the differences from my tables.

In red is the original layout, and in blue is the new layout. You may download the zip file if you want to examine the image closer.

As you can see the loop lanes at both sides are more open, allowing better shots to the loops.

The left flipper is lower, and the left targets too.

The center and right targets are more up and to the right, so they are easier to hit.

The right flipper is lower and more to the right.

The slingshots are smaller and lower and more to it respective sides.

And the lower flippers have a bigger gap between them.

So the game play in this version should quite quite different than in the original Seawitch. I'm not sure if it is for the best or for the worst, but I like the easier shots to the loops :)

UPDATE

4.0.0 Updated 13.10.2022
- Updated to my VPX7 physics
- cleaned up and deleted unused graphics & reduced the size of the table
- Added my VPX7 LUT changer to darken the table (hold down LEFT CTRL while change with RIGHT CTRL).
- Updated my mechanical set of sounds to a more "under the glass" sound.
- Changed the Environment image to enhance a little the object shadows.
- Some small script updates, like the Rolling sound and PlaySoundAt routines.

And remember this is my version of the table using the layout of The Beatles from Stern. There are some subtle layout changes from the original table that I think improves the playability of the table.

The pop bumpers do not light when the table is running JP. Thank you.

Thanks! I'll be updating most of my tables for VPX8, so I'll fix those bumpers in my next revision.
