File Name: Masters of the Universe - Desktop and DOFLinx Versions

File Submitter: GeorgeH

File Submitted: 11 May 2020

File Category: Future Pinball

Author(s): Rom, Hyperion, TerryRed, GeorgeH, Gimli
Manufacturer: Original
Year: 2012
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

NOTE:  This table uses Dynamic Flippers and Lighting that require use of BAM v1.4-267 (or later) to be installed which was released on November 9, 2019.  Part of the script requires version 275 although I have added some coding that will ignore this script if you don't have version 275 installed yet.  It is very easy to upgrade.  You can download the most current version at the following link.  This installation file installs Future Pinball and BAM at the same time.  If you have either Future Pinball or BAM already installed, you can still run it and it will bring everything up to date.

I have to say that TerryRed did an incredible job on his previous update of this table.  He added all the video clips you see and created the DOFLinx version.  In fact, I probably wouldn't play this table very much if he hadn't added the video.  Kudos to Terry!

This version of the table combines the veersion for DOFLinx with addressable LEDs and the desktop version from version 3.1 together into one file.  I did this to simplify the creation of future versions of the table.  It is a lot of work to create two versions of the same table.  It is quite simple for the end user to set the table up for desktop or pinball cabinet use.  I have provided the guides below.  If you already have downloaded version 3.1, there is no need to upgrade to version 3.2 because there are no other changes in this version.

How to set the table up for desktop use or on a pinball cabinet that does not have DOFLinx installed:

1) The download contains a file named "DOFLinx.vbs".  Save the file to this folder:

C:\Games\Future Pinball\Scripts

If you don't have a "Scripts" folder, just create one as a subfolder to "Future Pinball" as shown above.

2) Play the table as you would any other Future Pinball table.  You should be able to download and play other DOFLinx tables after saving this file.  If you do not save the "DOFLinx.vbs" as shown above, you will receive an error message that states "Variable is undefined 'FF_Init' " and you win not be able to play the table.

How to set the table up for use on a pinball cabinet that has DOFLinx installed:

1) Discard the "DOFLinx.vbs" file that is included in the download of the table.  If you have DOFLinx installed, you already have it.  Also, the file in the download is from DOFLinx V7.14 which might be a different version from what you have installed so do not use it.

2) Open the Future Pinball editor for the table and select Table > Table Info.

3) Change the "Loading Picture" to "Loading Image Portrait".  Close the editor saving changes.

4) Play the table and press the "HUD Toggle" key to turn off the Heads Up Display (HUD).

5) When finished playing, exit the table.  The setting from Step 4 will saved so that when you play the table again, the HUD will be turned off.  If you do not have DOFLinx installed, you will receive an error message that states "Variable is undefined 'FF_Init' " and you win not be able to play the table.

There is a second download attached to this posting that is identified as "Rotated Display".  This is a version of the table that is designed to only be used on a desktop PC with a single monitor where the monitor is turned 90 degrees.  It will not work on a pinball cabinet.  Instructions for setting up the table are in a PDF which is included in the download.  You will need to add the "DOFLinx.vbs" file to the Scripts folder as described above.

The table has several lighting modes.  Press the Special 1 key repeatedly to cycle through them.  There is an option named "End User Setting" where you can save your own settings in the script.  Directions on how to do this are listed at the beginning of the script.

There is a "zip" file included in the download that changes the color of unlit dots on the DMD to be black instead of dark gray.  I prefer having the unlit dots match the background color.  The effect is rather subtle so you may not want to use the "zip" file.  Do not unzip the "zip" file.  Just save it to the same folder as the table.  If you change the name of the table, rename the zip file with the same name.  Note that the zip file does not contain an XML file.  The XML has been added to the script.

This DOFLinx version incorporates many enhancements that were only available on desktop versions.  Version 2 of the desktop version of the table implemented many bug fixes that improve the game play.  Version 2 also reworked the audio and added a "Sound Level Control Panel" in the script where you can adjust sound levels.  Version 3 implemented dynamic flippers, enhanced lighting and many other enhancements.  Version 3.1 added additional lighting enhancements.  All of that is now available in this DOFLinx version!

I hope you enjoy it!

George

Guys,

I made an effort to upload the "Rotated Display" version of the table but I am not sure I succeeded.  I haven't uploaded many tables to this site.

You have to wait for it to be approved before others can see anything at the link. That is normal.

Guys,

I am sure I succeeded in uploading the "Rotated Display" file that I discuss in the description and it was sent to the moderators although I have yet to see it posted.  If you would like to have it, there is a version that plays about the same here:

I am trying to figure out the error that I am getting while playing. When I get multi-ball I always get a crash with script error line 493 to do with scoring. Anyone have any ideas? I have move the vbs file to the scripts folder and game starts and plays fine till I get multi-ball.

You probably ran out of memory.  FP never produces an error on lack of memory.  It just produces an error on the step it is trying to run when it ran out of gas.  Multiball is the most demanding point in a game for memory usage.  Since you succeeded in playing that far, you could probably find something that will lower  your memory usage by reading Step 12 of my guide here:

I get a 'displayscore' script error when playing the table. Is this a common bug in the current version of MOTU FP?

Not normally. Make sure you are completely closing FP each time you exit table, before starting another table to prevent glitches from happening, or running out of ram, etc.
