Thanks for your input guys, not working yet though.
I tried PinAffinity but when it's running, SteamVR immediately crashes
System details:
i5-4670K 3.4GHz
Radeon RX 480 video card (8GB)
16GB RAM
Windows 10
Oculus Rift (CV1)
Tables tried:
VR ROOM Medieval Madness
Addams Family VR
Jurassic Park (not vr)
All have the same stuttering issue. SteamVR's performance panel tells me it's rendering the frames in half the required time (~6ms for 11ms target - 90fps)
PF Reflections is off. Supersampling set to 100%. I've tried "Direct Display Mode" via SteamVR's developer settings, tried dialing back the global and per-application supersampling. Performance gets better according to the performance panel, but stuttering remains. I've turned off or set to minimum every available graphics setting.
The VR preview panel on my primary monitor appears to not have the same issue - it's fast and smooth.
According to Task Manager my CPU and GPU never exceed 70% utilization. Stern Pinball Arcade VR via Oculus Home works fine. I've tried the 64bit variant of VPinballX_GL (VPVR).
The best way I can describe the stuttering is it looks like it's displaying the previous frame after updating, like it's constantly jumping back and forth between the current frame and previous ones.
It's most apparent with lateral movement. I've just checked again and there seems to be no issue when I'm just rotating my head, it's only when I'm leaning or moving up and down.
I guess I'll keep searching forums for what I'm describing in SteamVR in general - it seems like the problem relates to headset tracking, but only in VPVR / VPX - SteamVR home is fine and so are games played via Oculus Home.
Update: I was wrong about other SteamVR titles working without this problem. I just didn't notice because things are far enough away in SteamVR Home that it was subtle. Move right up against a wall, lean left and right, and bam - same problem I'm seeing in VPX.
