File Name: Space Invaders (Bally 1980)

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 07 Sep 2019

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas
Manufacturer: Bally
Year: 1980
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

Table based on the 1980 Bally's Space Invaders widebody pinball machine.

Graphics enlarged, sharpened and modified (mostly texts and light inserts) from the VPX table by hanzoverfist.

Thanks to Carlos Guizzo for the images of the real table.

This table is dedicated to José from Chile :)

Some notes about this table:
This table is meant to be a "lighter" version of Space Invaders to be used with not so powerfull computers. Still the images are 4K and there are a lot of lights going on :)
All the illumination is done with VPX, so use the day/night slider to change the lightning.

The table is very fast paced and it will keep you on your toes the whole time.

The table uses the 7 digits rom only.

And don't forget to press F6 and enable at least the match feature, credits display, and the backgroung thumping sound.

Thanks for all your work. What I remember about the real Space Invaders is that I would watch people play and win credit after credit and I would struggle to do so, so this table brings back memories.

I just played 1 ball and I had to quit out just to say how well this plays.  It like modern video games that I hate, graphics are nothings, its playability or watever. I love quake & doom! .  Physics are spot on or at least they are now.  Thanks JP & dev guys(muskute or what is was for the physics) :)

Thnx JP for all your latest releases! They are awesome. Hopefully you'll convert one of your best originals ever also to vpx: Scarface

I second that!  Your Scarface in VPX would be a dream!

Yes, I'll make Scarface for VPX, but that will be a complete rebuild, even the script :)

Wanted to come back and give you a thumbs up for this re-creation JP. Since I've never played the real machine I can't be sure, but, I really like how it plays and my brain says that this is close to the real deal. And, of course - thanks for the update too !

i am really new to vpins.. when I press F6 the dip switch screen comes up, but I cannot click any of the options. Is it possible to enable the background thumping sound via the script or maybe find a way to use the mouse? Thanks everyone.

Regards,

Ezra

In your VPX editor: Preferences > Video/Graphics Options, un-tick "Force exclusive Fullscreen Mode" and you'll be able to use the mouse for dip switches. You can re-enable it after, if you need :)

UPDATE

4.0.0 Updated 19.11.2022
- Updated to my latest VPX7 physics
- Some small script updates, like the Rolling sound, Fading Lights and PlaySoundAt routines.
- Added my latest VPX7 LUT changer to darken the table (hold down LEFT CTRL while change with RIGHT CTRL).
- cleaned up and deleted unused graphics & reduced the size of the table
- Changed the Environment image to enhance the metals and also a little the object shadows.

The table is setup for use the 7 digits rom. If you are a desktop user and you want to use the 6 digits rom, then send me a note and I'll add the 6 digits reels. So, for now play the 7 digits rom, just like before :)
