Hi!

Shortly I'll be uploading a few vpm  and original tables to show what I mean with "DT" tables (Exclusive FullScreen Mode tables).

These DT tables are mostly updates of my older VPX tables, but I'll make some more originals using these settings, like Serious Sam II.

Exclusive Fullscreen Mode

These tables are ready to be played in desktop mode or rotated desktop mode (FS) with one single screen using the Exclusive Fullscreen Mode (laptops, surface, tablets, or desktop computers)
These DT tables can also be played in a cabinet, of course, by simply changing the FS settings or using a POV file.

Built in DMD

One thing in common to all these tables is that they do not use external programs, and they can be used in exclusive full screen mode because of that.
The vpiname is shown as a simple flash object and it is visible in desktop mode and in rotated mode (FS).
The original tables also use a new color DMD made of flasher objects, which are easy to show in both view, and using the same images.

Arcade Physics

The physics, which I call "arcade physics", are new to VPX, and the ball has more speed, acceleration and less friction.
In my opinion the ball feels more like a metal ball and less like a rubber ball. The ball still spins and the rubbers still grab the ball, but the ball flow is smoother.
The flippers are stronger and have a better control over the ball. Rubber and objects in general have less friction and elasticity.
Take a look at the PDF were it is explained all settings I have used.

The reason about these settings is because I wasn't happy with the "default" VPX physics. I always felt the ball did strange movements and changes in direction which remembered me more of a rubber ball or a soccer ball. So I went back to the settings I wrote when I first started testing VPX during the beta phase. And they were not to different than these ones. Playfield, walls, ramps, all the objects have less elasticity and less friction. This results in an increase in the ball acceleration, and the speed in general of the table. And I feel the ball is more predictable, without pausing from time to time or speeding up due to the objects friction. I still feel that the VPX physics feel more like they were written for a soccer game than for a pinball :)

Here it is the PDF file: [attachment=30182:JPSalas-DT table physics - Rev 1.pdf]

You have already "tested" this physics in my "Iron Maiden (Stern 1981)" :)

Original tables
I'll use his DT mode mostly for original tables, but it can be used with vpinmame tables too, as shown in the example tables.

Example tables
I'll be uploading 5 vpinmame tables and 4 original table to show these physics and the DT mode when using the FS settings. Using these DT FS settings will make the table look much better when using a single monitor, since the monitor is just in front of you, you don't need to fake the view as in a cabinet, so the table will look as good as in a desktop mode, with a completely round ball.

Here it is how the "DT" will be setup in desktop mode and FS mode.

[attachment=29921:Serious Sam Pinball II -DT v1.0.jpg]

[attachment=29922:Serious Sam Pinball II -DT v1.0FS.jpg]

So the biggest change is simply the FS mode which is meant to be played in front of the screen, and not from the bottom of the table as in a cabinet.

I add this in the WIP section since I consider this physics as a WIP :) So, test this tables and see if you like the settings. No problem if you don't, this is VP, so they can be easily changed :)

JP

Edit: rev 1 of the document includes a few small changes, mostly in the flipper settings.

OK, I really like the method to drop the DMD setup onto the apron to make it work better in a cabinet. Do you have plans to offer this setup as an update to Pokemon and GB Slimer?

Some feedback on things I feel could be improved (which is stretching, because the table is so good it's hard to find things like that!)

  • The kickout from Rocket Raccoon Anubis is too inconsistent, and has kicked balls straight down the middle multiple times for me. This is even more frustrating, because this kickout is so frequent.
  • The jackpot lights remain on after a multiball has ended.
  • The Light Lock standup targets are lit when they are hit (and thus do nothing), and not lit when they light the lock.
  • Many modes require more shots to complete than in the first table, which I feel is the wrong way to go. To me, the modes in the first table already needed too much of doing one thing over and over again. In particular, Horus requiring 16 moving shots feels quite excessive to me.

Thanks! I'll check those bugs in SS II. And yes the modes are hard, I wanted to give the table the same feeling of the game, in which you had to kill the same monsters again and again and there were hundreds of them. But I can always change it so it is easier to finish. :)

I want games to be hard, but, to get to the very end seems impossible with so many modes, all requiring a lot of shots. I think it is a good idea to lower the required amount of shots. Stern did that for Metallica, not very long time ago, so no shame in doing it JP ;)

Another thing that could help - if you go that route is to enable ball-save for a short period of time when a mode has been completed. Kind of like a reward.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Great Work JP!! I'm happy you want to rework physics like you think it's more realistic. You know i'm totally agree with you since we speak in PM. I'll test it when i go back, I not have lot of time since few weeks.

You know we thank you a lot for what you do for us.

Thanks so much for your work, you are an artist!  I am new to VPX and not so sure how to get these DT tables functioning in a cabinet.  I have them working just fine on my playfield with the inclination and such set how I like.  I have a three screen setup, so I'd prefer the DMD on the DMD screen and how do I get a backscreen on the DT games that have a dB2S published already (like ARFM) if that's possible? Thanks...

These tables were meant to be just desktop tables to be run with the exclusive full screen mode, they were not meant for cabinets. Just use the old versions for cabinets. This is mostly for my original tables.

Those DT version were a result of people asking me for a way to play in rotated desktop mode using the exclusive full screen mode, not in a cabinet, but with a single screen. But as always, you can't please everyone, since some rotate their desktops but the tables should not be rotated, and then the setting are not in the FS section but in the desktop section. But at least I showed a way to play the tables and use a DMD on the apron for vpinmame tables, with just a single flash object, and an alternate FS view more suitable for rotated desktop players.

Since there is a limitation on the number of settings you can include in a table, I think the best is to add to the zip some extra settings using .pov files, and leave the table with a "standard" desktop and FS settings. This means a setting for a 16:9 desktop and a cabinet FS view, which are the most used, and it is what most authors do.

All good JP, just got a bit confused which isn't hard at my age.  Certainly no 'bitching' just thought I had something wrong but turns out I simply had something else to learn.  Can't thank you enough for the beautiful tables you put out.
