VPX lag can be any number of things. Here are my suggestions:
1. Your harddrive is too slow or fragmented. You can solve this by upgrading to a SSD.
2. Your processor is too slow. You can solve this by upgrading your processor. I recommend an i5 or better.
3. Your video card is too slow. Most people recommend an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (or better). This is usually where the trouble is.
4. Your settings are too complicated for the graphics card you have. Try turning off ball shadow, flipper shadow, reflections, anti-aliasing, etc.
5. Your monitor is 4K and your system just can't drive that many pixels. Upgrade your processor and video card or drop down to 1080p.
6. You can't afford to upgrade any of your hardware. You can solve your lag by downloading and playing only VP9 tables. Some of them are quite nice.
I had horrible flipper lag in VPX when using an Intel i3 with Intel 520 graphics. I upgraded to an i7 with Intel Iris 650 graphics and all my lag went away.
