File Name: Cosmic Princess (Stern 1979)

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 30 May 2019

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas
Manufacturer: Stern
Year: 1979
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Based on the table by Stern from 1979.
Thanks to DedRok_V for the playfield and plastics pictures.

This is a complete rebuild in VPX of my VP9 table. Graphics images are the same (backdrop, bumpers and droptargets graphics are new)

Don't forget to use F6 while playing to setup the dip switches (thanks to Inkochnito's routines).

Again, if your flippers don't work, then update your vpinmame and VPX to the latest, or change the line with Const UseSolenoids = 2 with Const UseSolenoids = 1 to use the older flipper handling :)

Hi Armyaviation! You asked for the table, and here it is :)

Thank you for this recreation.

Please find below some tweaking in the script:

Add these two lines:

Sub sw17_Hit:Controller.Switch(17) = 1:PlaySoundAt "fx_sensor",sw17:End Sub
Sub sw17_UnHit:Controller.Switch(17) = 0:End Sub

Change this line:

Lamp 41, li4

=>

Lamp 41, li41

I have a question about the drop targets. Are they random when they reset either at the start of a ball or after being knocked down? Very rarely to they all stay up when they reset.

About the droptargets: I have spent a few hours today trying to find what was wrong with the droptargets. The script is right, what was wrong is that the droptargets drop/raise too slowly, and the rom gets confused.

I simply increased the speed of the targets, and they work perfectly now. I have updated the table.

UPDATE:

1.0.2 Fixed the droptargets.

And to answer bha19: the droptargets rise 2 the first time, 3 the second time, 4 the fourth time, and 5 the last time.

One more question. Was there a 7 digit rom for this game since the replay scores are 1,000,000 and 2,000,000 for the 2nd and 3rd scores? My top score is only around 500,000 so I would never make that. Also 40 cents a play, that is odd.

I don't know about a 7 digit rom, the only other rom I know is the free play rom.

According to this there wasn't a 7 digit ROM.

Gorgeous, fun and addictive table, beautifully executed! Thanks JP (and DedRok - who probably scored a bazillion points on this one and could really use a 9-digit ROM )

cool, :otvclap:
Thank you JP and thanks to all who have contributed their valuable collaboration,
Stern manufactured very good pinball machines in the early solid state machines
