John Carpenter's The Thing is an instant classic movie in the horror genre. The visual concept and the atmospheric sounds have not been worn with time...
In spite of its appearance in 1982, it can be stated from the perspective of 37 years that the time elapsed has only further improved.
About me one of the most important horror "experiences" of my childhood is the movie, which is still able to frighten my nerves to this day:)
Ennio Morricone is a world famous musician who has made the great OST.

The exquisite horrorist memories of the past have encouraged me to make a pinball version of it...

Video of the gameplay (with METAL music):

An important thing: (the contents of the music library -mp3 files- are placed in the following folder: Visual Pinball\Music
There are two types of music to choose from into the game. Anyone who prefers the music of the original 1982 Movie Theater doesn't have to do it, because this is the default.
If you prefer the Metal theme music, do the following: enter the script and jump to music settings (line 147). Change the following line (159,160,163) to this: "The Thing ost music.mp3" to ---> "The Thing metal music.mp3"

So, a complete multimedia package is included with the compressed file. Among others, the backglass (directb2s) file. PinballX desktop and cabinet files (audio, pictures, flyers, instruction cards, wheel, etc.)

Original (my resource) table: Ali v1.0.1

Thank you to the Master Jpsalas for allowing the original table's to be costumized.

John Carpenter's "The Thing" is one of my favorite movies. Saw it when I was 12 or 13 when it first aired on cable. I saw it during the middle of the of a bright and sunny day, and like "The Shining", it scared the hell outta me - in the middle of the day!

I was eventually going to make a vpx table of "The Thing" someday when time permitted, but it looks like you beat me to it .. and did a fine job!

Looking forward to trying this one out.

Thanks.

Hello HiRez00! Welcome to your feedback! I agree with you. I watch this movie again and again every year:) Basically, my Thing boards on a simple gameplay from the early 80s. So once you let your time and energy go, surely everybody will be happy with another Thing board:) I think even two versions would fit well with each other :) I'll tell you that I am very looking forward to your Halloween table:) Based on the preliminary pictures will be a big favorite...:)

Great table ivantba, thank you. Just had a question regarding sound. I'm using SSF on my cab and noticed most of the audio comes from the table itself, not the Backglass. Is this normal?

Hello Genesis38! Thanks for your feedback. Well, I basically integrated the effects beside the table sounds (simply method), but you can manually redirect sounds to the backglass as well in the vpx sound manager menu. Select the file and click "Toggle BG Out".

Hello Crutch! Thanks for the encouraging lines!:) I've been working a lot and thinking on design. I'm glad the movie's atmosphere came a bit across the table...:)
