Hey all!  Normal lurker and also very proficient (at least I thought until now) with VP and it's settings, but this one has me stumped.  The ball is just super bright.  Best I can explain.  Took a photo of what I'm describing (link).  If I apply a new material, it takes, but is just blown out bright.  Even applied different 'scratches' and takes, but again..just so bright.  I might mention it's happening only on Fish Tales and I've deleted the nvRam for the table and on the 1.5 ROM. Also, tried editing the materials, but not sure that's my culprit.  Of course any suggestions are welcome.  TIA!

not sure, if this helps this time but sometimes it is the culprit:

in table options at the very bottom you find lighting, there is a point "ambient (keep this low)" or similar. There set the color to full black (0,0,0) sometimes authors accidentially set it to something higher, which makes the ball look whashed out.

No Dice, but thanks for the tip!  I actually tried setting it to 15/15/15 earlier to give it some contrast, and no change.  It's odd because the ball image and texture are there...just oddly bright.  Only this table too.  Tried an older ROM just for giggles...nada.

So...two things...1...I don't give up...and 2, I don't read things.  Apparently, I didn't mind the table started small and I just adjusted the dimensions and all was well.  Those rubbers that needed to be deleted somehow interacted with the ball lighting.  Problem solved!

I've had a similar issue for a while with bright splotches instead of the whole ball.  I'm guess if you changed out ball images you would see splotches depending on the image.  I asked around about it but nobody seemed to have a clue.

Nope... like weird frosted patches.  Started happening several months ago and it's on all my ball images.  I posted a pic over at randr's a while back.

By the picture I guess you have accidentally activated the "Logo Mode", and it is showing the scratches image as the main image. Check the properties of the ball, and be sure the "Logo Mode" is not selected.

Note: I have used that "Logo Mode" on some of my tables, mostly in my Papa Smurf and  Smurfette tables which were a kind of example of what you could do with VPX when it first came out, and also in my Pokemon table.

Hi, years ago I found (cannot remember wherein) a ball image that is by far our favourite. I use it in all VPx versions and tables.

Thanks, JP... I'm glad you mentioned that.  After reading your comment I started looking through the preferences again and it turns out that the "overwrite ball image" was the culprit.  I turned it off and my ball images look normal, like they used to.  I'm not sure what it is about that option that caused it, but after months of scratching my head it's back to normal.  So, if anyone else is having problems with the weird, white glazed looking ball images, try disabling that option.  It's convenient to be able to set your ball image for all tables with one option, but it seems to cause weirdness for a select few people.

Glad to see this post was helpful!  Not sure if y'all caught that the problem was oddly solved but deleting those 3 rubbers (27,28.29) in the current Fish Tales build (1.1, I believe) that ultimately solved an original issue.  Not sure how that had anything to do with a washed out ball, but I'll take it.  May have just refreshed the NV or something. But again, thanks for the tips going forward!

Thanks!  I keep a couple, but I'm liking the phong placement on this one!  Edit: Tried this puppy on Theater of Magic and damn if it doesn't reflect the table with precision!  I'll be using this ball going forward and may be editing the colors based on the table.  So, sliding the color to blue/green for Fish Tales for example.  This stuff is getting out of hand! :)

Edit#2:Tried it on said FT table with appropriate coloring.  Looks great.  Shared.... ballfishtales.bmp

Do you have the image for me that you selected in the global options then?

Or did you just have that option enabled, but did not specify an image there?

The latter might explain it?!?

I stared at the code in question for quite long now, but i don't get it why this shouldn't/does not work.. If i pick the same image within the table or via the video preferences, then i get different results for each.. WTF!

It took me this long to even figure out what was causing it... but at least it's narrowed down.

Is there a way to keep the "overwrite ball image" checked, but then have a few tables with different ball images? I have been trying to set a few tables with separate ball images, but the default ball image is always in play on all tables.

I have changed the ball image and decal image in the individual table options properties on a select few tables, but there is no change.

Is this possible and if so, how?

I have this same issue! The only way decals show up is if i overwrite all. I don't want that.
